https://www.amazon.com/Goddards-Menagerie-Zuri-Tales-Book-ebook/dp/B01GGRKFAA?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0#nav-subnav

C. L. Hernandez's new book Mr Goddard's Menagerie ( Zuri Tales Book One ) is now published and ready for your reading pleasure! Everything C. L. writes is powerful, so I will give you my personal guarantee that this tale of horror will pull at you, getting into the dark recesses of your mind, the ones that are scared but loving every minute of it.

In addition to being an avid reader of everything C. L. Hernandez, I know that this particular tome stands out from the crowd of horror wannabees for another reason. Terri DelCampo, my wife, edited this book and kept telling me how good it is, but she wouldn't let me read any of it. How harsh! So, I will have to tell you how much I enjoyed it when I read my personal copy.

This is a great book! If you love horror, it will satisfy you to the utmost. Read the ample free sample and you'll see what I mean.

I thought I'd put up my Amazon Author Page link here again. There have been some changes in the past few months. Some of my books are no longer published and won't be seen anymore. Others I have taken down. These are previous short stories of mine. That doesn't mean they will vanish. I am combining many short stories into various collections. Some short and some long. I also have no plans of taking my short stories out of anthologies, even though the rights have reverted back to me. They have a happy home where they are, and I don't wish to be a home-wrecker.

Another reason for consolidation is the fact that I have many more books on the way. More collections, novellas, novels, and even some non-fiction. A lot of folks ask me why I'm putting so much up now. Simple. I'm no spring chickie. I have hundreds of tales to publish. I suppose this will be a simple case of marketing my back-list with my new books. For example: within a day or so, a new horror collection from Terri DelCampo and I will be published. In August, I have a new novel coming out. That's just the beginning. Just call me Blaze McBusy.

Happy reading!

If you love tales about werewolves, this great book by Mikhail Kerrigan is for you. Wolf's Blood is 618 pages of lycanthrope majesty. The best part is that this is novel #1 of a three part series. Format: Paperback
Have only recently began to enjoy books of this category. But do enjoy reading new authors. Mikhail Kerrigan did an amazing job of taking me through a world I normally would not go. Drawing me in page by page with increasing interest into the life and myriad of adventures of his characters. A few errors in the publishing but I understand from his fan page they will be corrected with the future prints in Nov, Otherwise the story is captivating, originally unique. In a world currently flooded with the subject, I am definitely looking forward to the future series. I would think they have the makings of a best seller.

Definitely worth the wait!!

Mikhail Kerrigan has created a wonderfully amazing story. He puts you right into his world with this highly recommended book. A very well written story.

THE DEAD POOL - BY JD PHILLIPS

JD Phillips, one of my favorite authors, is re-publishing a number of her novels. The Dead Pool is one of them. As the reviews below say, this is a fantastic read! If you haven't read any of JD's books, this is a great way to acquaint yourself with an author who is sure to captivate you.

Happy reading!

Book description:

A dangerous storm, a mysterious stranger, and a love that leads to a journey into the dead pool - and the beyond.

By Reader KDP on March 26, 2007
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Once again this author takes my breath away. Subtle hints are hidden throughout the book that will only be recognized if you have read the author's last book, "Tainted" as a special treat for those of us who read everything JD writes. The story opens with a man who is escaping from someone (or something)and collapses outside Bella's house in the middle of a stormy night. As she helps him, they discover he doesn't know who he is or what's happened to him. Strange otherworldly events occur as their relationship grows. We unravel the mystery of who the man is, where he came from and where he is going at the same time the people in the story do. Once again I never saw the twist coming but it brought tears to my eyes and hope to my heart. Actions do have consequences and maybe once in a while people do get what they deserve with a little help from the dead pool.

Format: Paperback
This author never ceases to amaze me with her lyrical writing. The main characters are intensely likeable, the plot is well paced and the ending is a surprise, as usual. I highly recommend that you read "Tainted" first, as this book drops many clues that are related to the other.

Format: Paperback
I totally agree with Reviewer: KDP of Indiana. Their description of the book is dead-on. This book is a must read! I have read all published works by this author and The Dead Pool definitely doesn't disappoint. I was hooked from the very first page. I thought about the characters, places and events long after I had finished the book and was so glad I visited The Dead Pool. The ending was so unexpected and very moving - it made me cry and it made me think. Take a swim in The Dead Pool...you will come out refreshed and feeling very much alive.

MORBID METAMORPHOSIS Terrifying Tales of Transformation

https://www.amazon.com/Morbid-Metamorphosis-Nickolas-Furr-ebook/dp/B01H4P2VIM/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1466960039&sr=1-1&keywords=morbid+metamorphosis

MORBID METAMORPHOSIS Terrifying Tales of Transformation, published by Jo-Anne Russell and Lycan Valley Press, is now available for sale. What do I think of this anthology? The best way for me to explain to you would be to post the introduction I wrote for this fantastic tome.

Here it is:

Jo-Anne Russell asked me to write an intro for Morbid Metamorphosis: Terrifying Tales of Transformation. Easy enough. Just so happens I edited the stories in this premier anthology for Lycan Valley Press.

First of all, let me clarify what my definition of editing is. I do not edit with an iron fist. Far from it. Jo-Anne selected the authors who are in the tome. Since she picked the stories to be included, she must have felt they were worthy pieces of horror literature and would not need a lot of apple polishing. Turns out that's the way it was.

I also use suggested edits. What does this mean? My track changes are used by me to ask questions and perhaps allow the author to read and capture my views on making the story stronger. That's what I did with this anthology, and it is better for it. Some of the authors told me they had points they wanted to make, and that's why they chose different ways to write certain things. They were right. I love give and take between authors and editors.

I learned much when I edited this anthology. Jo-Anne assembled many great authors from all over the world: Canadians, Americans, Australians, and masters of the craft from great Britain as well. Even though everyone writes in English, each country has differences in culture, spelling variances, and more. That meant it was necessary to further increase my light editing hand. As the stories rolled out before my eyes, I was transported to times and lands I have not been to before. I am well acquainted with many different monsters and legends from around the world, but to read it from the pen of a talented Australian author, for example, makes it even more delightful. And, it meant the authors and their stories had to be told in their style. Not mine.

Going through the stories from some of the most talented masters of the craft, gave me a warm feeling. There are some authors here I have the pleasure of being in anthologies and collections with. Others, I have the joy of having read and reviewed some of their books over the years. And I found some new favorite authors. A wonderful experience all around.

One might think that an anthology involving gruesome life-altering, metamorphoses would run out of ideas and be totally bereft of an eclectic array of such offerings. But you will not be a prisoner of story after story of larvae becoming butterflies. Not by a long shot. One fascinating and unique tale after another will be paraded before you. Mixed in with rather bloody stories will be deep psychological tales that will make you think Is such a thing possible? Thinking persons' horror that will have you scratching your head.

Read stories of legends of old with  new twists. Become acquainted with  Native American lore, the moon, lakes, a planet so crowded one is barely able to move without hindrance, accompanied by the expected starvation and adaptations needed to survive. But what form do they take? Medical advancements for greed instead of healing are never expected to work out well. Or are they?

Words and thoughts attack minds in such a manner as to create physical and psychological manifestations taking everyone by surprise. Eating disorders jump out at you. Animals of many species morph before your very eyes. Madness and mayhem abound. Bushes and tree limbs part before you, concealing that which lurks within the shadows. Fever, souls, and dark haunts are all here, leading you by the hand. But do you allow yourself to be lead? Horrors of the haves and the have-nots whisper in your ears. Yes, atrocities are committed as big business rears its ugly head. All this and more can be found between the covers of this anthology.

Discover, as I did, the joys of reading many different styles of writing taken from the deep recesses of the souls and minds of some of the best horror authors in the world. Gothic, modern day, and historical fiction await thee.

I do not throw my support behind every Press popping up on the radar. People need to earn my respect. Jo-Anne Russell is one such person. She cares about her authors. Lycan Valley Press is her baby, and she is nurturing it well. Morbid Metamorphosis: Terrifying Tales of Transformation is the first of the great books to come from this fantastic Press. It will not be the last. More are on the way. They will all be great.

Happy reading, my friends.

Book description:

Awe meets ache.

Regret gives way to rebirth.

A father sees his daughter rescued after a cold case is solved, only to learn the tragic limits of his love.

A man awakens a vengeful spirit and learns the terrible price of settling scores.

A young woman confronts the deathly price of existence inside a German concentration camp during the Holocaust.

And much, much more…

Have you ever been punched in the stomach? You know, just hit so hard that it knocks the wind out of you and all you can do is sit there and try to catch a breath. That’s how I felt after reading this book. Each and every story packs such a powerful punch it’s hard to say which is the better one! Kudos to Doug Murano and D. Alexander Ward for gathering together such a stellar collection of stories that so aptly go with both the darkly beautiful cover by Caitlin Hackett and of course the title… Gutted: Beautiful Horror Stories.

Stephanie M. Wytovich — “The Morning After Was Filled with Bone”
Read this poem and then look at the cover again, this is a poem of empowerment. It encompasses the body of the book and is a great introduction to the stories within.

Brian Kirk — “Picking Splinters from a Sex Slave”
A child abducted, and as hope begins to wane of ever seeing her again the unimaginable happens… she is found. But, can things ever go back to what they were? A father’s love is pushed to the limits.

Lisa Mannetti — “Arbeit Macht Frei”
It is said, ‘All’s fair in love or war’. But, what does that really mean, and how far should one go?

Neil Gaiman — “The Problem of Susan”
Survivor’s guilt, what a cross to bear. Or is it remorse? ‘Why not me?’ one may ask.

Christopher Coake — “Dominion”
I’ve heard it said that the soul will linger at the site of death until it can find a resolution. A group of kids ready to party are soon to find out whether this is true.

Mercedes M. Yardley — “Water Thy Bones”
Love comes in many strange forms, it’s just a matter of finding someone who is willing to accept what one willingly has to offer.

Paul Tremblay — “A Haunted House is a Wheel Upon Which Some Are Broken”
This is a splendid interactive story where you, Dear Reader… are able to choose your path through the chapters. The outcome is up to you!

Damien Angelica Walters — “On the Other Side of the Door, Everything Changes”
Such a sad story of choices. How can one be sure which is the correct answer, until the choice has already been made?

Richard Thomas — “Repent”
When one’s soul has been blackened so darkly can there be any room for atonement?

Clive Barker — “Coming to Grief”
The grieving process comes in many forms, if one is not careful it has a way of swallowing you whole.

John F.D. Taff — “Cards for His Spokes, Coins for His Fare”
Oh my, I wanted to cry. How could a birthday gift go so terribly wrong?

Amanda Gowin — “Cellar’s Dog”
As in Androcles and the Lion, we find good deeds are rewarded when Laticia summons the courage to rescue a dog.

Kevin Lucia — “When We All Meet at the Ofrenda”
Ah, Day of the Dead… it’s the one day every year that we can visit with our loved ones long gone. Whitey has a date and a promise he aims to keep.

Maria Alexander — “Hey, Little Sister”
A brother’s love for his little sister can be a powerful thing. So powerful in fact, that it can raise the dead!

Josh Malerman — “The One You Live With”
Does anyone truly know who we are? Or, better yet, do you truly know who you are?

Ramsey Campbell — “The Place of Revelation”
To tell a story you must first own it. Uncle Lucian has been telling young Colin stories for years, now it's Colin's turn to tell his story.

It would be remiss of me not to mention Luke Spooner. His beautifully done artwork graces the pages of this fine book. Or, Crystal Lake Publishing for bringing this book our way! Truly one of the best anthologies I have ever read.

Format: Paperback
An absolutely stunning collection. Haunting and heart wrenching, not one story misses. Although horror fans will celebrate the familiar names, newcomers to the genre will not be disappointed. Paul Tremblay's story alone is worth the purchase price.

Format: Kindle Edition
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is in no way reflected in my opinion of this anthology.

Gutted: Beautiful Horror Stories is fantastic! Most multi-author collections have some stories that I love and some that are just ok, but Gutted is filled with wonderful stories. The tales found here are touching and horrific, heartbreaking and full of hope. None of them are disappointing. A few of my favorites are:
The Problem of Susan by Neil Gaiman — A very dark twist on a beloved children's story.
Dominion by Christopher Coake — A girl gets help from the other side. Great ghost story!
Water Thy Bones by Mercedes M. Yardley — This is a disturbing and yet somehow beautiful tale of love and death.
On the Other Side of the Door, Everything Changes by Damien Angelica Walters — A truly heart-wrenching story about bullying and it's consequences. This one was hard to read through my tears.
Repent by Richard Thomas — A father is willing to make any sacrifice to save his son.
Cards for His Spokes, Coins for His Fare by John F.D. Taff — This one broke my heart!
Cellar’s Dog by Amanda Gowin — Revenge doggy style.
When We All Meet at the Ofrenda by Kevin Lucia — A widower brings his family together for Día de Muertos. Touched my heart.
Hey, Little Sister by Maria Alexander — A man seeks revenge for his sister with unintended consequences.
Horror fans will find much to love in this superbly written anthology. A highly recommended 5 star read.

The motivation is to create a documentary on the seemingly unluckiest place below the waves. But it soon turns into a frightful discovery of secrets that the Andea Doria has kept hidden for 60 years. With the help of Sharky, Jim, and Dolph the dive team uncovers a supernatural element named Lenora, the lost child of the Andrea Doria, but they also uncover a terrible secret beyond anything ghostly. They discover an all-too-human conspiracy to take the ship down in 1956 when it 'collided' with The Stockhom. A conspiracy to make it and its menacing cargo a home for sea life and a DEAD SHIP DOWN.

From the opening page Mr. Walker pulls you into his story and this is the kind of book that you will stay up reading well into the night.
Well done, and I cannot wait to read his new novel coming soon entitled, Gorillla gone.

Torii (To Rule the Universe Book 1) - by Amanda Marie

https://www.amazon.com/Torii-Rule-Universe-Book-1-ebook/dp/B00KO10TI8

Torii  ( To Rule the Universe Book 1 ), by Amanda Marie, is a great genre blend novel. It entails sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal/teen and young adult. A super book from a great new author on the rise. Check this book out my friends. You'll love it.

Blaze McRob

Book description:

Tara just wanted to fit in, but she hated school. When the weird talking dog shows up in her room, Tara is convinced she's studying too hard, but she can't shake the feeling that something's wrong. When her best friend is killed, Tara finally decides to listen to the dog, and finds herself in a world she only thought existed in books and movies. So just who is she? And who is the mysterious man with the hypnotic green eyes? Are myths really reality?

Format: Paperback
I received a copy of this book from Amanda herself in exchange for writing an honest review.
To be honest, it was sort of slow to get off the ground BUT what part 1 of any series isn't that way in the start? You have to start laying the ground-work that will allow for character growth and what not. Amanda does this brilliantly. Tara, the main character of the series that Amanda is building, starts out in a unique set of circumstances that she adapts to as she gets older. Once she becomes of age, to borrow a used line, she has to adapt yet again. This seems to be a strong theme for the series: being able to adapt. And it is relate-able to say the least. Tara has three large hurdles: 2 of which are physical or external to herself and I won't ruin that part of the story for the rest of you readers out there and the third hurdle is in the form of a love triangle that forms as the story develops. Amanda puts unique spin on the vampire/human/not quite full human romance. And it is thrilling and enthralling and every shade of that first great love that we all experience in our lifetimes. I, for one, am eager to see how the rest of this series plays out! This is certainly a read that readers who love action/adventure/drama/twinge of romance novels will definitely enjoy.

Format: Paperback
We're pulled into a fantasy story that flows alongside real life... What is real? What is only legend?

In this book, I found a lot of creative storytelling that pulled me along while I read. At every turn, there were unanswered questions, kindling love, and the threat of epic battles! I'm sure the next book will reveal so much more!

I recommend this book to those who love fantasy, who cheer for a lost cause, and who don't mind being left in the dark, as long as questions get answered, later! Have fun reading!

Format: Kindle Edition
Torii—a gate of Japanese origin and design. Gates can keep things in, keep things out, or simply mark the beginning of one place and the end of another. In this story, it is all of these.
Young Tara Thielman knows nothing of her infancy, and certainly nothing concerning anything of Japanese influence. All she knows of gates are that they are fun to swing on and keep dogs from running away.
That is, until the year when everything went strange--and oh so wrong. First, dogs started talking to her. And if that wasn’t bad enough, they were telling her of disastrous events in her future. Naturally, she ignored them—until things started happening to her friends.
Distraught, she runs from everyone and everything she knows in order to live with her brother in Tokyo. This is where she meets Jason and Killian, and her world expands into entirely different universes.
For there is a connection, one known only to a chosen few, to another place and time. And this reality, on the other side of the Torii, is spiraling into chaos. A rival kingdom is making its move on the land, and from there to the rest of the universe.
The one thing Tara—now known as Mayuri—and her allies have over this rival is the use of 21st-century Earth technology.
Their enemy doesn’t know where the portal is, or even how to use it. But their leader has centuries on his side. For he is immortal, and the life fluids of the rest of the Universe beckon him to total domination.

“Torii” is the first in a series, and shoots off the blocks at the get-go. Ms. Amanda knows how to flesh out a character, and bring to life those silhouettes on paper so that we can really get to know them. I could really see this book branching out into a graphic novel, both in English and Japanese. It just fits into that genre perfectly.
I fell completely in love with Jason, which is understandable, concerning the mysterious creature he turns out to be. His kind are compelling at their best, and terrifying at their worst. I love the dichotomy of the two worlds, the appearance of Atlas, the flying horse, and the magic that pervades the entire book.
I do have to tell you that the book has a cliffhanger ending, but I know that Amanda is working on the sequel. So answers will be given—while new ones, I am sure, will be presented for us to guess at. And with the way she writes, it’ll be well worth it to ride along with her characters until we all find the answers together.
I highly recommend this book. Five stars is not enough!

It's another launch day over at Crystal Lake Publishing! And it’s another 99c special from those creepy folks. They're weird, right? Or is it just me?
Anyway, it's RUN TO GROUND by Jasper Bark: http://getbook.at/Run
The sale is limited to the first 100 copies or so sold - then the price goes up to $3.99. The paperback will be out later this weekend ($10.99).

Jim Mcleod is on the run.
He’s running from his responsibilities as a father, hiding out from his pregnant girlfriend and working as a groundskeeper in a rural graveyard. He’s running from a lifetime of guilt and bad decisions, but principally he’s running from the murderous entities that have possessed the very ground at his feet.
Jim has no idea what these entities are, but they’ve done unspeakable things to everyone in the graveyard and now they’re hunting him down. There is nowhere Jim can hide, nowhere he can walk and nowhere he can run that isn’t under the lethal power of the things in the ground. If he stands any chance of survival he must uncover the link between his murderous tormentors, three mysterious graves and an ancient heresy that stretches back to the beginning of time.
Run To Ground is a tale of extreme folk horror. It opens the reader’s eyes to a terrifying new breed of gods and monsters, but be warned, within these pages you’ll find blasphemy, brutality and unbelievable depravity the likes of which you’ve never read before. SELCHOR

In addition to all the other projects I am involved in over the next six years - yikes, they are legion! - I have decided to hasten my release of Selchor. Originally, I had planned on waiting until I was ready to do a graphic novel for my buddy, but I am so busy with writing that I don't have the time for a while to ink and color what I want to display for Selchor. He is a different kind of super-hero, champion of the under-dog in a world gone wrong where humanity is less than noble. I already have a number of his stories written, and I will write more. I haven't decided if I will pen a number of novellas or do a novel. At any rate, this is a project in the works.

I believe many people will appreciate Selchor for who he is and what he does. Sometime down the road he will hopefully grace the pages of a series of graphic novels.

Selchor will let you know when he is ready to make his debut. Keep your peepers at the ready.

D-DAY

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normandy_landings

Today is the anniversary of D-Day. I have included the link above from Wikipedia. There are many more. Simply click  https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?p=d+day&ei=UTF-8&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-002
to find some of them.

D-Day was a pivotal day in the turning of the war in Europe towards the Allied Forces in World War II. Without the effort and sacrifices of our troops back then, Hitler could well have won the war. If there are any D-Day Veterans reading this, I want to say thank you for all you did.

Not enough thanks goes to our Veterans. Stop and think: if we all refused to fight for what we believe in, we would be living under the thumbs of tyrants. Brave men and women ensure our freedom.

Remember this day and many others, my friends. We owe these Veterans big time.

Smite The Damned, by Zack Kullis, is a read I enjoyed immensely. The Nephilim have always held my attention. Hell, I even write about them. Zack does a great job here with not only them but other bad-asses as well. If you love to read real horror, then this novel is for you. Read the reviews below and see what I mean.

This is a great, mind-opening book.

Review

This was an awesome read. The author did a great job of bringing in creatures that I have never found in other books. His detailed descriptions of characters, surroundings, and events really sparked my imagination and allowed me to see what was happening in the book. Smite the Damned& will no doubt satisfy your desire for entertainment. I found myself not wanting to put it down and looking for opportunities to take out my phone to find out what was coming next. I highly recommend reading this book! I hope there's another one on the way. - SCantrell36

From the Author

I think an antagonist should be, without question or hesitation, hateful and bad to the core. The antagonists in this novel fit this bill.  This novel, and the series which it starts, introduces a group of monstrous beings that have been nearly absent in literature.  These beings, Nephilim, are dark enough to find a way into our collective nightmares.

There is much in this world that is unexplained, much that we don't see, and there is much that we don't understand.  How much of this novel is based on a reality that we cannot see?  How much of this novel is based on something that we can only see out of the corner of our eye in the magical hour of twilight?  Read this, open your mind, and let yourself go.

Format: Kindle Edition
Note: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I have to say I was utterly amazed by the writing style Kullis set forth to make this book. It was the perfect mix or creepily unnerving mixed with intriguing. The descriptions of the plot and characters were fantastic adding another depth to the story as a whole.

What reader doesn't love a hero with a tragic past as the main character? The action scenes were also thrilling and believably written. It was definitely an entertaining read that I would recommend to people that would like an entertaining and exhilarating story.

Our Review [by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L Olson]:

When Zack asked if I would read and review this book, one quick preview of the synopsis let me know that the answer would be "yes". Little did I know that after just the first few pages, I would audibly be saying "whoa". :-)

This book is darkly creepy, psychologically unnerving, scientifically intriguing, and philosophically thrilling...and all in the best possible way!

I was trying to come up with a combination of authors to peg Zack and Smite the Damned, and while I couldn't do it well because both Zack's writing style and the book itself are its own beautiful creatures, the closest I could come was John Saul meets Dean Koontz's Frankenstein, meets early Stephen King.

Smite the Damned has a loveable main hero with a tragic past, incredibly complex supporting characters, villains that are so despicable that you feel them in the pit of your gut, and a storyline that just doesn't stop.
The descriptives are deep and incredibly vivid without being smothering, and the scene transitions and character play are smooth and combustible. Zack's dialogue is well written and truly believable, the action scenes are intense and emotionally charged, and the suspense is well placed and called for.

While my adjectives above pretty much sum up how I felt about the book, I'd like to add that I am constantly on the hunt for a book, movie, etc that sufficiently creep me out and have always struggled finding it. While a lot of material pushes one of my buttons, be it psychologically thrilling, surprising in ways that make me jump every now and then, mentally challenging, etc, there had yet to be a combination of everything that actually had me saying "wow, this is really creepy... and I love it!", until this book that is. :-)

Three cheers for Zack Kullis and Smite the Damned and I want to thank him for letting me take a walk through his dark and twisted imagination!

LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives Smite the Damned 4 ½ Skulls.

I definitely recommend it for ALL horror fans who like deep, dark, twisted psychological thrillers with philosophical roots and scientific overtones. This book is not for the faint of heart, and if you don't like your thrillers overly dark, it may disturb you. If you're like me, and are always on the hunt for "darker is better", then you need to read this book!

Carole Gill, Author

By Lisa McCourt Hollar on May 5, 2012
Format: Kindle Edition I met Carole Gill in the Masters of Horror Facebook group but I had heard of her even before then through various blog interviews. When offered the opportunity to read her novel, The House On Blackstone Moor I leapt at the opportunity. Carole, I knew from reading her flash fictions, was a talented author and I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into the book.

At the time I was reading another book and intended to just take a quick look at the first few pages before setting it aside to finish once I had completed the novel I had already committed to. That was a mistake. Carole is such a master story teller that she had me entranced within the first few sentences. The other book would have to wait, though it didn't have to wait long. I finished this book in one sitting, unable to put it down to even cook for my family. My temporary orphans would have to fend for themselves whilst I pursued the dark world Carole Gill created and the secrets contained within the Moor.

The story begins with Rose Baines, a young woman who has come home to discover that her father has murdered her entire family before killing himself. Rose is declared to be unbalanced by the event and sent to a sanitarium under the care of a Dr. Bannion who immediately takes Rose under his wing.

Eventually Rose is declared well enough to leave the asylum and Dr. Bannion finds her a job working as a nanny to a wealthy family that lives in a house at the edge of Blackstone Moor. Rose approaches the job with excitement, glad at this opportunity and ready to love the children entrusted to her care, only to discover that things are not as they seem and even begins to question her own sanity as she witnesses events that she cannot explain.

The story is a dark tale of Vampirism, Satan worship and how easy it is to be swayed by evil. Taking place in England in the mid 1800's, Carole does an excellent job of bringing the reader into the era and if I didn't know any better I would have thought the story was penned by an author of that time. The characters are seductive and appealing, repulsive and vile; they are a contradiction of emotions that will leave you wondering who Rose should trust, right up to the dramatic conclusion.

I found myself caught up in the pages, holding my breath in some instances. It is one of the best vampire/demon stories I have ever read and I look forward to reading her next incarnation.

Gothic Horror is not my usual preference but this caught my attention and interest. I got the book and glanced at a few pages out of curiosity and found I could not put it down. The presentation this gifted author uses allows the reader to feel a part of the story as the tale is shared and told by Rose. As Rose reveals not only her story, but hopes, fears, dreams and desires, the reader can visualize the people, places, and events as the story unfolds.

The reader could feel the drama, suffering, grief and determination to persevere by Rose and ultimately the questions she must find answers to and make choices to survive. Good and bad, God and the devil, Heaven or Hell, blessed or damned as she is confronted with the choices of heart, soul, love, the will to survive, injustice, abuse, fate, and if fate is real what are the consequences of following the heart.

I recommend this story to read, enjoy and realize more than a simple tale told. It is a well written story of death, character and drama that holds the interest from beginning to end.

This book had me captured from the beginning. I was intriqued with the House on Blackstone Moor and the secrets it was hiding. Great characters that made me feel I was back in time with Carole's writing style as it built up and up keeping me wondering what's happening next. A highly recommended read and a full 5 stars!
