Quite by accident, I found out a rather interesting thing a small Press is doing that they should not be doing. No, I'm not going to mention the name of the Press. Not my style. They're cheating. How, you might ask? They're cheating with their reviews.
How can that happen? It's simple. Someone connected to a Press puts up a bogus review for one of their books. In this instance, it was the acquisitions editor. Others as well. Tsk, tsk. For all of us who have written reviews for authors, ones we have no connection to financially, and have even purchased the book with our own money only to have the review taken down by Amazon because we know the author, this sucks. We're giving a fair review and stand to gain nothing by it other than the satisfaction of telling readers we have found a great read for them.
The Press involved is one I even thought about submitting to at one time. Not any more. I would rather have no reviews than have ones that are soiled.
When submitting to a Press, it might not hurt to look at some of the reviews for their books and see where they are coming from. I trust the people I submit to. I know they are honest.
This is the end of my short rant. Have a good day.
