Margaret L. Colton is my Woman In Horror today! Margaret is rather shy about tooting her own horn. There is much to be told. This interview with Eric Jude is a fascinating way for you to discover this fascinating lady.
There's no sense in me adding bits and pieces of this post. Hit the link and read it in its entirety.

Amazon bio:

Margaret L. Colton is an avid history buff, especially in the areas of Medieval Europe, Ancient Greece and American History, she loves all things history--especially the stories of history. She has been imparting her historical knowledge on her students for over 12 years, teaching not only historical subjects but psychology as well. She teaches in the same district she graduated from. Even though she has two Master's degrees in education, the writing muse called to her.
Before beginning to write again after many years, she began editing and started ML Colton Editorial Services, doing some free-lance editing. Currently, she has short stories in the State of Horror series namely: State of Horror: New Jersey, North Carolina, Louisiana and others set to be published next year. Along with writing short stories, she is the Editor-in-Chief at Charon Coin Press and beside Paying the Ferryman, she has other projects due for release next year including the paranormal romances Carpe Noctem: Truly, Madly, Deeply and Tenebris Amore: The Heart's Desire.

She has two beautiful daughters, a granddaughter, and grandson, who all share her love of books and fun as well as some amazing friends around her. Even though she lives in Missouri and is a rabid Cardinals baseball fan, she loves to travel to some of her favorite places like New Orleans, Florida and Hawaii.

Book description:

Death. Just the word can trigger gut-wrenching fear. The kind of fear causing the heart to pound, cold sweat to run down and burn the eyes, and fingers to tremble with a loss of strength. Is our fear the realization that from the moment of conception, the clock starts counting down until we come face to face with death? More likely, it is the fear of what comes after the moment our last breath escapes. The exploration of this fear is contained within these pages. Join us as we follow a serial killer who tries to outrun the minions from Hell. Meet a man forced to relive his past hoping for redemption. What if your destiny begins after your death? Death is truly just the beginning.

After death has occurred, what could be worse? Paying the Ferryman answers the question of what comes next in twenty imaginative tales.

State of Horror: North Carolina is an anthology full of horror stories that all take place in my original home state of North Carolina. Some of the authors I have read before and really enjoyed in the past, and some are new to me, and I will be sure to read more of their work in the future.

The stories in SoH: NC will creep you out. Maybe not all of them, but some of them will definitely make you want to think twice before you wrong someone. There are all kinds of horror stories in this edition of the series. Where some of the stories were creepy, others were funny, or just downright wrong. Some of the stories are variations of classic urban legends that have been told for generations in probably every state. There is one story that reiterates the classic lesson of not having sex in sacred places (duh!). Stories of irony and revenge, there is a little bit of something for any horror fan.

One of the things I liked about this book, as immature as it sounds, was seeing places I’ve been mentioned. I used to live near Lake Norman, and one of my favorite places on earth is the Biltmore Estate. Anyone who has spent any time in western North Carolina can tell you some of these stories don’t sound too far off from things they may have heard of occurring.

My one complaint could simply be my own misinterpretation. I expected stories that were a little bit closer to traditional local lore. Now, I’ve lived on both sides of the state, but never in the center. And I obviously don’t know every story ever told, so maybe I just didn’t hear the same stories these authors did. I almost wish I could have told the authors some of the stories I heard (and experienced) while living there, but I wouldn’t want to scare them too badly ;)

This book is a great read for any horror fan. It’s not overly gory, at least not in my opinion, so if you love horror but are squeamish, this might be the perfect book for you. The stories are interesting and fun (who doesn’t love a story about Chicken Bingo?!). The length of each story is good, not too long or too short. Most of the stories have characters that we can relate to in one way or another which brings a level of reality to them that make them even scarier.

I would recommend this book to any horror, paranormal or urban fantasy fan. There is a small amount of romance in a few of the stories, but it’s not flowery and sweet. It’s horror romance.

This was a great book,What a collection of stories.I had also picked up the Audio book and went from one to the other when I was busy doing other things and couldn't sit and read. My mom was from NJ and we lived there for a while in the late 80's.This is a delightful collection of short stories, all entertaining and well written. Mr Jack Wallen did a wonderful job with narrating the Audio Book. He has the Jersey swagger and attitude down packed.A few of my favorite stories in the book were "Sweets for my sweet" By Margaret L Colton."Dying Days Charon" By Armand Rosamilia and "Pork Roll,Egg and Slease" By Frank J Edler,Memories of Her are Dead By Eli Constant. All the stories were great fun. There were a few typose but nothing to detract' from the stories. Well done putting this marvelous collection together. I have a few more of the books in this series to read,I am really looking forward to reading them soon.

This book was an outstanding balance of thrill and horror. Very entertaining and fun read.

I don't wish to comment on this collection too extensively as I am one of the contributing writers.

I can say, as someone who did read the book, that it is a wonderful collection of horror stories based in the Great Garden State. There are not only different styles and tropes on display but also some genre mashing as well. There are offerings from writers who hail from New Jersey but also writers who just wish they could be be here. It's interesting to see who gets it right and who gets it wrong. Don't lose your mind because, in the end, it's all fiction folks!

Something for everyone, no matter what state you're in.

The State of Horror series heads down the mighty Mississippi to the river delta on its tour of the United States with the first of two stops in the Bayou State—Louisiana. Come with us as we explore tales of vengeance rooted deep within the past delivered up on the living of the present. What evil hides within the horrors of Mother Nature’s fiercest storms? What is the recipe to heal a broken heart? From deep in the bayous to the streets of New Orleans, Louisiana delivers up the horrors in this stop along the tour.

Join us as we explore the darker side of Louisiana
