Nicole Storey is my Woman In Horror today! Nicole has a way with YA/fantasy/paranormal tales. Not only that, but her books in her Grimsley Hollow series are dedicated to all children with disabilities.

From Goodreads:

"The series is about Gage Gilbert, an eleven-year-old boy who has Autism, loves Halloween, and has no friends. Although he has always been happy with the safety and security of his family, he longs for a real friend and adventure - not just the ones he makes up in his head. Then, he meets Eve. Eve is a young witch from another world called Grimsley Hollow. It's where all magical beings live in safety and peace, but their world is in trouble. Gage is the only one who can help save them from an evil witch who has taken control. With Eve's help (along with a sarcastic pixy, a trouble-making werewolf, and a half-vampire), Gage travels to Grimsley Hollow. Together, they begin a journey that will change them all. It's a dangerous race against evil, where creatures unheard of stalk the land under a harvest moon and monsters that only exist in dreams become real. Gage wanted friends and adventure, but he had no idea they would come at such a dangerous price. Can one autistic boy defeat an evil witch and help save his new friends? Travel to Grimsley Hollow and find out!"
From Nicole:

"On a more personal note, I’d like to introduce my Grimsley Hollow series to those who are not aware. These award-winning, bestselling books give #specialneeds children a hero of their own to cheer for. Middle-grade (#MG) #Fantasy with a touch of #Halloween, this series is suitable for kids ages 10 and up.
Special needs children only want to have friends and to be accepted for who they are. Together, we can make this happen."
I really love this! As a father and grandfather with children who are Autistic, I have to honor Nicole for what she is doing. Bravo, my friend!

Amazon bio:

Nicole Storey is the author of the Grimsley Hollow series - a middle-grade fantasy with a touch of paranormal and a lot of Halloween - and the award-winning Celadon Circle, a YA series inspired by the show, "Supernatural." She lives near Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, two children, and a menagerie of pets. When she isn't fighting demons or traveling to distant lands with potty-mouthed pixies, she enjoys reading, blogging, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family.

On to some great books!

The Chosen One is the first novel in the Grimsley Hollow series. Nicole does an outstanding job with this great tale. It takes a lot of talent to start a series, make the first book a complete story, and keep one's appetite ready for the next one in the collection. she has done that here.

Book description:
Eleven-year-old Gage Gilbert is autistic, loves Halloween, and has no friends. He longs to share real adventures – not just those conjured in his head.

A mysterious key leads him to Eve, a young witch from another world called Grimsley Hollow. It’s a place where all magical beings live in safety and peace, but their realm is in trouble. Gage is the only one who can save them from a nefarious witch who has taken control.
And the human world is next on her list.

With Eve’s help (along with a potty-mouthed pixy, a trouble-making werewolf, a half-vampire, and a couple of dragons) Gage travels to Grimsley Hollow and together, they embark on a journey that will change them all.

It’s a deadly race against evil, where extraordinary creatures stalk the land under a harvest moon and nightmarish monsters take form.

Gage wanted friends and adventure, but had no idea they would come at such a dangerous price.

This is a charming story about a young autistic boy called Gage who gets invited into the " storybook " world of Grimsley Hollow to help the people and creatures defeat an evil witch, who is causing havoc in the search of a magic key.
This is very much in the vain of the Harry Potter books except the hero of the story is autistic and there's no school.

In the story you get to meet some characters which are expertly crafted and within a short time you feel as if you've known them forever.
There's vampires, witches, pixies, dragons and even a demon doctor.

Now, I loved the Harry Potter books and i can heartfully say that Nicole Storey has captured the magic and mystery of Grimsley Hollow just as good as JK Rowling did in her books but with the additional insight of what an autistic person has to deal with on a day to day basis.

I just hope that the right person comes along and reads this book because it, in my opinion, has the same potential to be liked and enjoyed as much as the HP series and I can't wait to see what adventures await Gage in the follow up books in the world of Grimsley Hollow.

I came across Nicole Storey and her book via Ritesh Kala's Book Blog. He was doing a week long spotlight of Nicole and her book Grimsley Hollow-The Chosen one. I read the interview and learned she was inspired to write this book because of her son Gage who has Autism. As a mother, she was heartbroken when her son was sad over poor treatment at school by his fellow peers. Alot of students look at kids with Autism as stupid. Nicole wanted her son and others to know that "Autism does not mean stupid." In fact, they are quite brilliant individuals. She wanted Gage to know how wonderful he is and that having Autism is not a bad thing. She wanted other children with Autism and their fellow peers to know this as well.

So she decided to write a book that would include tidbits to explain Autistic behavior (Ex."stemming") and this wonderful idea turned into a very wonderful, descriptive and hooking start to a series! I loved all of the characters... Gage,Eve,Landon, Puck...all of them! Right from the beginning the story snatches you up and you are hooked until the end. I have gone through the other reviews and agree with all statements. I will not give an overview of the book because the other reviewers have done a wondeful job of it already, why repeat?

Thank you Nicole for being a wonderful mother and creating this wondeful story!

(I was in no way paid to give this review, in fact I proudly purchased this book for a very reasonable price and am sharing my review simply because I loved it)

A lovely story about a 11 year old autistic boy, Gage, who is sent into a world of magic. There he meets some fantastic friends who are in danger- an evil witch is trying to take over Grimsley Hollows and enslave all the mythical creatures that reside there. A selfless and heroic adventure unfolds were Gage learns not only about his friends and their land, but about himself as well.

This tale was well-written and captivated you immediately. I found it easy to connect with the characters and was interested in how the author wrote about Gage. Honestly, it was impressive! The theme struck close to home and more than a few times I had to brush tears from my eyes. I love how she explained what autism was and how he coped with it throughout the story.

The swear words mentioned had me a little hesitant to hand the book over to my sister, but honestly, she's probably heard worse by this point... I like how there were no dating references. A book without a romantic theme is hard to come by, especially for the preteen/young teen generation. I am thrilled to have found this for that alone!

The cover art is wonderful and the price for the kindle is well-worth it. You will cherish the characters, be submerged in the plot, and with the details the author provides, experience the adventure as if you were standing on the grass beside Eve, Siren, Landon, Puck, Gage, and everyone else!

Thank you Nicole Storey, for writing such a phenomenal book! I can't wait to purchase the next one and continue cheering my favorite heroes on! I highly recommend this book for anyone with a child 12 and up, or if you're just interested in a tale full of magic.

(My sister loves the book as well and can't decide who her favorite character is, lol!)
This short tale is the prequel to The Chosen One. Yet from the reviews, readers like it as a stand alone story. Alrighty!
Book description:
This short story is approximately 14,400 words.

Grimsley Hollow is home to all magical beings who once inhabited Earth. A malevolent force destroys the tranquility and respect which reigned between the different races for centuries; and a young witch named Eve is the only one empowered with the truth.

Eve’s journal records events which lead her and a few extraordinary friends to seek the only one who can help them survive: The Chosen One.

Eve of the Beginning is the second book in the Grimsley Hollow series and a prequel to the first book, The Chosen One.

Grimsley Hollow - Eve of the Beginning is a prequel to the wonderful book, "Grimsley Hollow - The Chosen One" by Nicole Storey. It tells its story through the eyes of Eve Broch, the little witch in The Chosen One as she chronicles the events leading up to the her arrival in the human world to recruit Gage's help in saving her world of magical creatures from the evil Inari. It provides a great back story for the characters in the first book. Since I read the chosen one prior to this book, I am bias toward recommending the books be read in that order. However,I think this story of Eve, if read first, will flow nicely into the previously published book in the series.

I enjoyed the humor in the book a great deal and there is lots of it. But there are also some touching moments where the reader can't help but love the little witch's spirit and courage. What questions the reader of the first book may have had about Grimsley Hollow and the magical creatures who live there, are answered nicely in this addition to the series.

Eve's story is entertaining to read because she is a likable, witty and warmly written character. The book, although a prequel, is delightful as a stand alone story.

Not many books get my attention like the Grimsley Hollow books. There is just something special about picking up a book and instantly getting lost in a whole new world. Every mythical creature you could ever dream of comes alive in this story, which is magical in itself. From the first page I was entranced and could not put it down until I finished. It was almost like a spell had been cast on me. It is a wonderfully spun story that not only had the attention of this 45 yr old mother of four, but her 8 year old daughter as well. I cannot wait for Ms. Storey to cast another spell, but until then, I think I'll just re-read this one...again.
Format: Kindle Edition
What a great beginning of what looks like a promising series. I was instantly entranced and completely enchanted by the whimsical story. I must have been ingesting elf brew too. I'm no YA fan and to be able to interest me in a book takes a bit of ingenuity on the part of the author. Nicole receives high mark from me, and I can't wait to read the next in the series!
The Search For Siren continues the Grimsley Hollow series and, once more, there are tons of great reviews. This is a series not to be missed, my friends!
Book description:
Grimsley Hollow is under attack again. Is Inari trying to seize the Key of Opa and take control of Grimsley Hollow or is she under the power of someone even more insidious, greedy, and evil?

Siren has been kidnapped in hopes of drawing out his family and friends, especially twelve-year-old Gage, who holds the Key of Opa and all the power of Grimsley Hollow. The Daoi, a group of rogue werewolves, is enlisted to aid and abet. They would love nothing more than to sink their teeth into Siren’s pack.

When danger hits too close to home, Gage and his friends have no choice but to travel to Hemming Woods and confront the devil and his minions on their own turf – Dark Hollow.

There is nothing stronger than the bond of friendship, nothing more enduring than the ties of family, and nothing more powerful than a boy who has discovered his own self worth and the magic that comes with believing in himself.

But Gage must hurry. Siren is not the only one depending on him now.

The Search for Siren is the third book in the Grimsley Hollow series.
Format: Paperback
In all honesty, I did not really look forward to reading a 3rd book in the Grimsley Hollow series. Because in my experience, series books begin to get stale, repeat themselves, because the author is running out of ideas especially if there are short time span between books. But the first two books of the series were so good, it was almost like the characters urged me on to read this one as well. Well I am sure glad I did!

Keeping a story alive through more than one book is a feat many authors have a hard time doing.... Not Ms. Storey. She has a natural ability for telling a story and keeping you involved. Her books start with a chapter or two to refresh your memory of what had previously happened... where the last book had left off, and since her books COULD be read as stand-a-lone stories, with a closing chapter that COULD be the end of a story... you could just pick any one of them up and start reading and within a chapter or two you are caught right up with the story line and in the adventure. This is very important for people like me who do not sit around reading all the time, sometime life takes over and I don't have time to stand in line waiting for the next book to hit the shelves.

Her story line is intended to be read by young adults, and I don't consider myself very young anymore.... until I start to read her books. Some how they can take me to this far away land and I can become young again as I follow the characters through their adventures. In this third book you travel back to Grimsley Hollow to save the namesake Siren. There is important things for young Gage and his friends to do. But being children there is always an adult in their life that thinks they know better and are doing what is in the best interest of the child. Sometimes (as in this book) children can prove their abilities and strengths and the adult gains a new respect for the child, the child that has more courage and fortitude than most adults you will ever meet.

This review is very hard for me to write... not because the book was not good, because it is TOO good. TOO much happening and I would hate to spoil any of it for a prospective reader. I know I hate it when I read a review of a book or even the book jacket and then after reading the book I realize that the jacket or review revealed the best part (only good part) in the book!

So I will end my review with this last comment...If you have read Grimsley Hollow: The Chosen One and Grimsley Hollow: The Eve of the Beginning you will want to continue on with Grimsley Hollow: The Search for Siren. You NEED to travel with Gage and the rest of the characters to the end Siren's abduction. It has twists I never saw coming, turns that will make you want to turn around and run in fear, but most of all it has the same intense reader involvement that her other books have had. Ms. Storey's tales are getting anything but stale, she has not run out of ideas, challenges, or adventures for Gage and the rest of the kids. I can do nothing now but look forward to see what she comes up with next!

Rarely have I been so gripped by a story.... I started this and could not put it down; if only I had 10* to give I would.
Ms Storey skill as an author is amazing. The emotions that she pulls you through are immense and yet she is there to hold your hand the whole way through!
YA story?? yes absolutely, I would be happy for any of my nieces and nephews to read this; humour abounds and the world she creates is fun, loving, scary and feels true.
But this story extends far beyond a YA story, I, at a grand old age of 40 have been routed to the spot reading this.
Ms Storey transports you back straight to the end of the last book, a small catch up chapter is all it takes to remind you of where you were left off; so powerful are her characters.
This is a thriller of a story as the whole of "good" Opa tries to rescue Siren and stop the "evil wizard".
A run of the mill story I hear you cry... oh no! this is far from a fun romp of witches and faeries and will terrorise you in parts, make you hold your breath in others and some of the profound statements will make you actually stop in your tracks.
At one point I was screaming (in my head as it was 5am!) at Maddy for being so closed, crying for poor Siren and cheering Inari on....I look forward to a pair of her knitted socks on sale soon!
The undertones and morality of this story will also make your heart ring, the love almost drips of the page.
I dare anyone not to feel totally uplifted and ready to save the world at the end of reading this.
I am so looking forward to the next installment!

This is the third Grimsley Hollow installment, continuing the story of a twelve year old autistic child as he explores new realms and makes friends. It reveals a lot more about the connection of the main character to the magical realm he has been chosen to enter. We learn more about his family which has not been covered in the previous two books which, for me, gives the reader greater appreciation for the complexities of the larger story. It also has even more fast paced action and touching friendships. The tables are turned and roles reversed in some cases. I found this book more mature and robust as the story takes some darker turns than the previous two books. In short, this series while compelling, charming, and entertaining to this point, has upped its game. I recommend it highly for those who have read the previous two and to those who haven't I would say, "Catch up, you're going to love this next bit!"
Blind Sight is the first book in The Celadon Circle series. While geared for teen and young adults, I believe this is geared for adults as well. The best way to tell if you will enjoy it is to read the Amazon free sample.
Book description:
Jordan has visions of monsters, demons, and death. Seventeen, orphaned, and born into the family business, she doesn’t have friends, she doesn’t have choices. Her uncle, older brothers, and a few annoying angels dominate her life, demanding she tow their lines – and the punishment is severe when those lines are crossed.

When Jordan is ordered to help hunt down a monster, she’s not sure which she dreads more: the elusive, blood-thirsty creature or spending time in a cramped backwoods cabin with a brother who despises her. To make matters worse, a demon shows up and warns Jordan that she could be her family’s next assignment.

In a game between Good and Evil where God seems to have tapped out early, lines are blurred and not everything is as it seems. Jordan learns a little too late that the real monster is closer than she thinks.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I started reading this book and I was pleasantly surprised at the author's unique approach to paranormal fantasy. It's a story with a powerful bite that sunk its teeth into me and didn't let go until it was good and ready.

This story steps outside the box in several areas, particularly when it comes to the archetypal good-vs-evil struggle. There are many shades of grey to be had in this particular tale, which ends on a satisfying note but with the assurance that the adventure has only just begun. This is but the first book in what promises to be an exciting new series, geared toward more mature readers as opposed to the young adult crowd. One series I will definitely be following.

I read this book in two nights. I read every night, but usually take a week to finish a book. But I couldn't put this one away. The characters were very well written for the YA audience ... not too simple, but clearly defined and understood.
The storyline was intriguing and a lot of fun to follow all the little twists and turns.
While one of the twists was carefully hinted about, the final twist came out of the blue and really added a great kick to the end.
Now my only complaint is ... how long do I have to wait for the next chapter in this storyline?
I am 56 yr old and loved this book!
Format: Kindle Edition
Jordan may have a cool psychic power, hang out with angels and have the ability to kick some serious demon butt, but she still has to deal with the same teenage angst as other girls her age. Family drama, too much responsibility and the fact that she is forced to be something she's not sure she wants to be. Every girls feels like she's got the weight of the world on their shoulders, but Jordan literally does. Blind Sight does an excellent job of describing what is tantamount to a supernatural demon smack-down while keeping Jordan a realistic teenage girl with normal teenage feelings and keeps the reader wanting more. I want more...much, much, more.

I can see this book turning into a series of books that will be a runaway hit. I can't wait to see what Storey has in store for us next.
Refracted rocks awesome sauce! There could be no better sequel to Blind Sight.

Absolutely LOVED it.

Usually, I don’t expect the second book in a series to be as good as the first (excluding Harry Potter, of course), but this author has pleasantly surprised me. Bravo to her.

I have read all of this author's books and have found that her writing has matured…it has gone from a colorful caterpillar to a very elegant butterfly.

She is definitely an author to keep your eye on and devour everything she writes.
