What do we have when we take the bleak existence experienced by so many inhabitants of this spinning orb we live on and combine it with the reality of impending doom? We have Rush Hour, by Thomas Brown. Horror authors tend to capture the reality of blacks, grays, whites, and different shades of such interspersed within their writing. Thomas Brown does it better than most. This story reminds me of George Orwell's great classic 1984 in this respect. Thomas' great prose paints the perfect canvas.
