Rachel Rawlings is my Woman In Horror today! Rachel's stories have plenty of kick-ass action, so women and men will both be drawn to them. Did I mention the bite? It's there too, with vampires, witches, weres, and other delightful nasty buggers running around everywhere in her Maurin Kincaide series.

Rachel's novels are fantastic urban fantasy and possess a strong female lead who tries her damnedest to keep the Demons in check.

In Rachel's words:

"I've always been one to pick action over chick flicks and I think I approach writing the same way. I've read and continue to read series that are more leather and lace than bullets and octane because of their Paranormal/Urban Fantasy content but when it came to writing my own series I didn't want my vampires to just bite, I wanted them to kick ass too! The Maurin Kincaide Series are slightly dark, action packed Urban Fantasy novels with a strong female lead."

From her Amazon Author page:

Rachel Rawlings was born and raised in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. Her family, originally from Rhode Island, spent summers in New England sparking her fascination with Salem, MA. She has been writing fictional stories and poems since middle school, but it wasn't until 2009 ago that she found the inspiration to create her heroine Maurin Kincaide and complete her first full length novel, The Morrigna.

When she isn't writing, Rachel can often be found with her nose buried in a good book. An avid reader of Paranormal/Urban Fantasy, Horror and Steampunk herself, Rachel founded Hallowread- an interactive convention for both authors and fans of those genres. More information on Hallowread, its schedule of events and participating authors can be found at and She still lives in Maryland with her husband and three children.

Not only is Rachel running all over the place writing her great books and keeping just one step ahead of the Demons, but she is an organizer of HallowRead in historic Ellicott City, Maryland. This is a Book festival and mini-con for authors and fans of Paranormal, Urban Fantasy, Steam Punk and Horror books. and This event occurs around Halloween: as if I really had to mention that. Rachel is trying to get me to come and give a workshop on how to write horror. Last year I was sick and couldn't go. This year I hope to be there. The event takes over the town, and if I can make it with some of my Women In Horror in tow, the old town will never be the same.

Time to talk about some of Rachel's great books. First up is the Morrigna ( The Maurin Kincaide Series, A Paranormal/Urban Fantasy Book 1 ):

Book Description

January 9, 2014
Maurin Kincaide is a psychometric investigator for Salem's Supernatural Task Force. She's spent the last few years working crime scenes and using the memory links in fingerprints to catch criminals.

When the current bad guy turns out to be a demon, Maurin must work with Seamus--the task force's
prime suspect for unleashing said demon. She follows Seamus deeper into the supernatural community and discovers there's a lot more going on than anyone guessed.

Our unique investigator is quickly enlisted from her day job by the Council, a secret governing body of all things Other. They want her to find out more about the abundance of demons in Salem and who might be controlling them...

5.0 out of 5 stars dark, fast paced and action packed Urban Fantasy May 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Maurin works for the Police as an interrogator utilising her psyhic gift to aid her but when her powers become unreliable she is put on leave to allow her a chance to get to the bottom of it. When brought before the Council Maurin discovers more about the world and herself than she thought possible, suddenly she is pulled into a war that she never knew existed and finds that she may be the key to bringing it to an end. Talk about pressure!

Maurin is a likeable character, she makes mistakes while learning to control her developing powers and struggles to come to terms with the consequences of her actions. She remains human while surrounded by people who aren't, never entirely sure who to trust.

Rachel has created an interesting world full of sexy shifters, powerful witches and arrogant vampires who battle against gods & demons to keep the world safe. Rachel has placed her own spin on popular myths to bring her world to life. The Morrigna is a thoroughly enjoyable action packed tale full of intriguing characters who are just begging to have their stories told. I really enjoyed this one and I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment to find out what happens next!

If you enjoy slightly dark, fast paced and action packed Urban Fantasy then this is definitely for you! I'm giving it 5 out of 5 stars :)

Here lately I had found myself getting totally bored with reading. I was reading romance/erotica BDSM. It was the same old thing BORING.
A friend of mine totally recommended this book said “I guarantee you it is fantastic and you won’t be bored” So I picked up the box set for $.99 and WOW I would have gladly paid more for this fantastic series.

Maurin is an awesome character she is a psychic being used by the council which has yes vamps, weres, witches. And of course you have to have the bad guys the triad sisters and their army of demons. I won’t spoil the book with details however; I will say expect the unexpected when you think the book might be predictable the author throws in something totally unexpected.

The thing I like most about this book is the characters are believable and humorous. Plus the huge battle scene was awesome. This book is definitely something I would continue reading about. I would put this book right up there with some of the best horror writers ever. In fact it is one of the best horror books I have read in a very long time. If you like vamps, were, witches and demons this is a must read.

This is the first book in the series and is priced at only .99. Get it now while that price holds! Mighty fine looking reviews!

Witch Hunt is the second great book in the series.

Book Description

January 9, 2014
Maurin Kincaide is back in this action packed follow up novel to The Morrigna. No longer a member of Salem's Preternatural Task Force Maurin is the new liaison for The Council, governing body of Others. During what should have been a routine meeting with her former Captain, Maurin is brought in on a murder investigation. Three dead witches, three cryptic clues, no sign of the killers and the Salem coven is losing allies within the Council. If Maurin and her unlikely partner Captain Matthison can't stop the killers, the Witch City might be without its namesake.

The first book may not have been what everyone expected, but it totally served it's purpose to set the stage and provide the background. In Book 2 Witch Hunt we are on to the action! If you love paranormal stories this is one for you! You have it all romance, action, imminent danger and of course supernatural beings! Maurin Kincaide is on a journey to find out exactly what she is, as she is not fully human with these super healing qualities & psychometric abilities she has. As her journey to find herself continues she get further involved with the Council and realizes that although she thought the Coven was her friend that there were really ulterior motives to Mahalia's monopolizing of Maurin's time and although her mind is telling her to follow her gut she trusts the relationship with the Coven only to be pulled in so deep she almost doesn't surface. But she is a butt kicking supe who ends up hot for Aidan a stealthy and necro-protected vamp and the two come together to find a way out of this crazy situation the Coven has gotten her into. What remains to be seen is HOW the Coven will deal with Maurin's wrath and boy does she have one. MUST READ!!!! CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE!!!

When words like butt-kicking are bandied about, I listen. Obviously, Rachel has some excited fans.

The UnSeelie Dark Guard have answered the call for her head on a platter and people closest to her are disappearing.
Can Maurin master court politics and find her missing men before someone claims the bounty on her head?

I was so excited when I got this book. My favorite characters were back and getting into more trouble then its worth. Cash is back and babysitting Maurin as someone wants to kill her. Her hot hunky and most drool worthy boyfriend, Mason is still the head of the STPD. Aiden is still pining for Maurin but has Ryanne. So what does a girl do. Now there is a new threat on Maurin's head and everyone is trying to keep her safe and as we know Maurin will not take things lying down. The fae courts a fighting and its spilling all over Salem . And the dark guard is after Maurin and they want her head. On top of that her dog, her father and her man are missing . Can she find them without loosing her head and will she get the swing of court politics before they are doomed. Just all in a day's work for our Maurin

Like I said I was so happy when I found this was out. I picked up and started reading right away. Was so happy to get my fix of one my favorite series characters . I love me some Mason and Cash.

But digress. Rachel makes you feel like these characters are like part of your family. They just get under your skin and you want to help them out anyway you can. I feel like Cash is the big brother trying to keep you in you place and keep you safe. Aiden is the cool neighbor that comes in and just makes life difficult. Getting into trouble with you while trying to hit on you at the same time . Amelia is you best friend that you want to have fun with but still need to trust her . I mean I can see all of these characters as part of my life. She also brings back a very bad character and adds a couple of others . We even see a couple of zombies trying to take out a chunk of our Maurin. You will laugh and you will shed a tear or two . But most of all you will be cheering for all of them. Not going to say anymore cause I will blow the ending for you. And trust me the last pages are happy dance moments .

Rachel just gets better with each book in the series. This book will take you on a ride with some twists and turns . The story will keep you reading all night long . I did get a book hang over from reading this book. I did read it in a day, it was that good. Trust me from the very first page to the very last page, you will be drawn in. Ill Fated is packed full of hot werewolves, vampires, fae. Love, friendship and oh yes a kidnapping and a price on her head. Now if that doesn't make you want to read then I don't know what will. Oh yeah the zombies . So if you want a great series please

check out the MAURIN KINCAIDE SERIES and a if you have read the first five check out ILL FATED trust me you will not be disappointed at all .

There was once a belief that a series would get boring after three. A lot of great authors are extending them now. Rachel is one of them. With each new book, she gathers new fans.

Watch for more great books from this young lady. Rachel Rawlings is a Woman In Horror!
