PANEL 35 - A GREAT SHORT READ FOR JULY 4TH!

Panel 35 was originally written for Memorial Day, but I believe this is the perfect book to be read at any time we think about those who have ensured our freedom. July 4th is one of those days. This is a short read and doesn't even cost a buck. I personally guarantee you will love it.

Book Description

May 20, 2014
Every year, Rachel meets with her father at the Vietnam War Memorial. Panel 35. They only spend one hour with each other and she doesn't see him again until they meet the next year. This year he is late and she worries he may not show. Blake, a young soldier paying his respects notices Rachel and stops to speak with her. While she waits, they talk and then something happens that Blake never expected and he realizes that his being there is part of a bigger plan.

I enjoyed reading this tale. I think the author did a fine job balancing between narrative and conversation, and it follows a good arc without bogging down. I confess that as a veteran, myself, I have a soft spot in my heart for tales of this nature, but I'd be glad to read more of this author's work.

A FEW UPDATES - '68 BUICK IS ON IT'S WAY!

I have been pretty busy working on edits for friends and a mess of other things, but since I have hundreds of short stories sitting around gathering dust, I thought I might as well publish them. Some, I will put out as single .99 cent tales, and some will be bundled into small and large collections. That will start in a week or so.

On a larger scale, a novel I have had problems getting edited for three years now will be coming out in late September, early October. It will be published by Visionary Press Collaborative. The title is '68 Buick. This is a Grim Reaper tale, but one like you've never read before. My Editors are Quinn Cullen and Becca Boucher, two of my Women In Horror. The cover art has been waiting for years and is done by Sue Mydliak, another Woman In Horror. It pays to know fantastic women. This will be my first novel to come out under Blaze McRob, all my other ones having been published when I was a ghostwriter.

I will have another novel published in November, and one in the middle of winter. I think you can see a pattern here.

When my tales come out, I hope my readers will enjoy them as much as I enjoyed writing them.

Thank you.

ROSE BLACKTHORN - WOMAN IN HORROR!

http://www.shocktotem.com/author/rose/

Rose Blackthorn is my Woman In Horror today! Besides the fact she has a kick-ass name for a horror author, Rose writes great horror tales! Rose loves not only horror but fantasy/sci-fi as well. At the moment, she is writing short stories in horror and dark fantasy. However, she has plans to do some novels as well. Alrighty!

Rose is proud of her horror leanings and is surprised when people ask her questions about it. Needless to say, she believes women can write scary every bit as well as the men. Perhaps better.

Rose loves the character in Stephen King's Misery, Annie Wilkes. Of course, we all know Annie as the nurse from Hell. She loved the portrayal  that Kathy Bates did in the movie. No arguments from me. Kathy was spot on.

Rose's short story Beautiful, Broken Things has been accepted into Wrapped In Black: Thirteen Tales Of Witches And The Occult, an upcoming anthology from Sekhmet Press LLC.

In the anthology Equilibrium Overturned: The Heart Of Darkness Awaits, Rose has a super story Through The Ghostlands.

Once again, Grey Matter Press has published a compelling horror anthology of 14 short stories, including some terrifying science-fiction tales. They are setting a high standard for horror anthologies. My favorite story was Amnion by John Everson, an erotic horror tale of science and a scorned woman. I'm already a fan of the works of Everson, and he certainly doesn't disappoint in this tale.

My other favorite tales include:
This Is Not A Horror Story by Tim Waggoner: The DMV has never been scarier.
Martial Law by JG Flaherty: An intriguing take on the Zombie genre. Can zombies make our country a safer place?
The Butcher of Gad Street by Stephen T. Vessels: A demonic tale which some intriguing mythic aspects.

Rose and I share stories in the fantastic anthology Enter At Your Own Risk: The End Is The Beginning. Her tale Consequences is a must read. Firbolg Publishing did a superb job with this anthology. I am honored to be included with so many great authors. Rose, of course, is one of them. I get to read this whenever I wish because I have the ebook, the paper back, and the Big Book: a luxurious  hard cover edition with gorgeous interior, full-color art.

Book Description

May 6, 2014
Human beings—the undisputed top of the food chain, the long-standing masters of planet earth. Or are we? What may be crawling out of the sludge to take our place? What monsters have we created in our labs, factories, and our very own genetic code? In the fourth installment of Firbolg Publishing’s Enter at Your Own Risk series, which pairs Gothic masters such as Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley, and H.P. Lovecraft with modern authors of the dark and macabre, the theme is environmental horror. As mankind’s tsunami wave of progress, industrialization, and technology reaches spectacular new heights, sinister things are churning beneath the surface. An unfamiliar stench on the wind. Waters a bit too murky. Soil a bit too red with blood. Progress at a price. A terrible, terrible price. Will we survive? What strange new worlds will emerge from the chaos? With an introduction from Holly Newstein, Enter at Your Own Risk: The End is the Beginning explores both the horror of the end and the hope of new beginnings for our planet and ourselves.

THE END IS THE BEGINNING may seem like a collection of horror and science fiction, but the frightening truth is, it might just be our generation's The Prophecies, predictions of what's to come if things don't change. Incurable diseases. Pollution. Out-of-control technologies. Climate change. Extinctions in the name of progress. The stories in this book range from chilling to terrifying, but all of them are thought-provoking in some way, opening our eyes to the dangers of disregarding our environment, of trying to play god. This is Frankenstein on a global scale, and we are the peasants suffering from the arrogance of those who would put greed and progress above common sense. I dare you to read this book before bed and not experience nightmares. Old masters of horror and new ones wait between these pages to open your eyes and infect your hearts with dread. Enjoy their tales, because afterwards you may never look at the world the same again. - JG Faherty, Bram Stoker Award®- and ITW Thriller Award-nominated author of more than 50 short stories and 10 novels/novellas, including CASTLE BY THE SEA, FATAL CONSEQUENCES, and CARNIVAL OF FEAR.

"A brilliant blend of the old and new, providing a diverse perspective on a modern problem..." Rob Smales, author of Dead of Winter

This is a book that should be read by a fireplace with either a cat in your lap or a dog at your side. It will keep your interest and make you happy if in bed that you have a honey sleeping next to you when you read it. The stories vary in style from classic creepy to comeuppance creepy all smoothly delivered. Great authors! A truly worthy collection.
