SAULT STE. MARIE — While Hollywood doesn't often come calling the Eastern Upper Peninsula, it appears as though Sugar Island may be home to a rising star: Shiloh, a domestic wolf who plays a featured role in the new Mirror Dog Productions film "Urban Myths."
Born in Montmorency County in June of 2011, Shiloh was subsequently moved by his owner, Silverfox Lopex, to his current residence on Sugar Island where he has caught the fancy of those behind the camera.
"The funny thing about Shiloh is he will do it one time for you and do it right," said Silverfox of working on the film. "If you mess up, too bad."
Starring in a feature length film with some familiar names — Lou Ferrigno Jr. (the son of the original Incredible Hulk) and Joe Estevez (brother of Martin Sheen) — Shiloh was an integral part of the production.
The wolf, Siverfox admits, has a little of diva in him.
"These guys are very stubborn," said Silverfox of working with the domestic wolf. "Shiloh won't do anything if you don't have chicken there."
And not just any chicken, Silverfox explains, "We reward him with Kentucky Fried Chicken."
Shiloh has also developed a taste for the dollar burgers at McDonalds, Silverfox added, saying he can spot The Golden Arches as the pair travel to and from their shoots.
"Urban Myths" was primarily shot in the Gladwin and Standish area with film crews also visiting the Upper Peninsula for certain takes. The full-length feature film is currently in post-production in preparation for release.
Directed by Kim Marie, "Urban Myths" is described as a story about a group of high school students who embark on a spring break camping trip. The film reportedly showcases the best of northern Michigan.
Silverfox, who has made a name for himself on the flute, also contributes to "Urban Myths" with background music accompanying the film.
A sequel to "Urban Myths" is also in the planning stage, evidently hinging on the success of the first movie.
