Marija Elektra Rodriguez is my Woman In Horror today! She is another one of the great Australian authors included in my Women In Horror. I particularly enjoy the historical fiction added in to her horror and the way she is able to blend back-story with the present. Truly superb. This is not an easy task to master. There is a fine line to be walked with presenting the story while adding in just enough of everything else at the right time. Marija walks that line well.
Masquerade, a collection of Marija's short stories is the best way to get to know this author. All the stories are superb. Go to the free sample on Amazon and you will see what I mean.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worthy of Anne Rice or Poe December 20, 2013

I enjoyed all of the stories in this collection. The writing reminds me of Anne Rice and the stories are worthy of Edgar Allan Poe. There is a deep darkness and disturbed nature to some of the stories, which was a bit much for me. The Anatomy of Insomnia is a finely written tale, complex and the ending is a little ambiguous. The Bacchae was the best written piece of the collection.
What Lies Beneath is an anthology where Marija has a great short story titled Outside Eyes:
Another great anthology is Bloody Ghost Stories. Ah, these are the best kind. Marija's tale Lazaretto is superb. No surprise to me.
