Jill Cooper is my Woman In Horror today! As you can tell from Jill's picture, she is a no-nonsense woman. In all actuality, she is a very nice lady who just happens to love horror, Stephen King being her biggest influence.

Jill is an author who loves to blend genres. Horror, comedy, the supernatural, and love can work their way into her stories. Many authors are starting to do this now, but not everyone has mastered it the way Jill has.

Her Amazon bio helps to shed a little more light on the mysterious Jill Cooper:

"I could write this in the third person. I could tell you what I like, where I was born, and what my favorite things are.
But instead, I'll say I don't want to write like everyone else. I don't want to craft stories you've read a thousand times before. I want my novels to be a cinematic experience, blending themes, genres, and situations unlike any you've ever read.
I want to break the rules. I want you to break out in a cold sweat as you read my books out of fear, love, and excitement. I want my books to be an experience. When you finish, I want you to feel something. Good or bad.
If you do, then I'll have succeeded. If not, I'll keep trying.

A great place to start with Jill's super tales would be The Dream Slayer(The Dream Slayer: A Young Adult Paranormal Series Book 1). Not only is this a super story, but it is free, and you will get all psyched up to read the rest of the books in the series.

Book Description

May 1, 2012
"Jill Cooper's debut young adult paranormal novel offers a lot of *punch.* Bam, kapow, hiyaaah! Witty dialogue, memorable characters, and hilarity in the face of certain doom all make for a stunning read." -- Emlyn Chand, author of the award-winning Farsighted series

When your dreams come true, sometimes you get more than you bargained for...

In the young adult teen series Dream Slayer, Natalie Johnson has always dreamed she’s someone else; calm, beautiful, in control. A chosen warrior with a maniacal arch nemesis and a dreamy boyfriend, the type that can make your knees melt and your heart quiver.

Real life is much different. She’s tormented by a bully and endures the sharp tongue of her father, but finds solace in her dreams.

When her bully ends up dead, de ja vu from a dream hits her hard as everything around her begins to fall apart. Whatever killed Sarah in her dreams is now in reality, hunting her from the shadows. And it wants her dead.

Somehow as the lines between reality and nightmare blur, Natalie must discover hidden strength to pull her friends and family back from the brink of madness.

In the tradition of young adult vampire fiction such as Twilight and Buffy the Vampire slayer, comes The Dream Slayer.

The Dream Slayer: Book 1
The Demon Royale: Book 2
The Uninvited Novella
Dawning Apocalypse: Book 3 (release date Oct 29th)

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting paranormal twist June 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Dream Slayer is a fast-paced story with a unique paranormal twist.

The heroine, Natalie, is a downtrodden teenage girl who suffers through daily bully attacks at school, only to go home and deal with an angry, alcoholic father. She's self-conscious about her appearance, doesn't value herself, and has one friend (Tristan), who she leans on heavily for support. My heart went out to her almost immediately.

In Natalie's dreams, though, she's an entirely different person: confident, thin, pretty, and a demon slayer. Yep. While Natalie sleeps, she becomes a kick-ass monster killer who immediately reminded me of Buffy. I'm a HUGE Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan and this story reminded me of my favorite show.

The side characters: Tristan, Michelle, and Mr. Buckle provided fun one-liners and comic relief, and reminded me of Buffy's Scooby gang.

The unique twist I mentioned above comes in the form of alternate dimensions. Natalie's found a way to "bridge the gap" so to speak, and I found myself a bit confused on more than one occasion as I tried to discern which world she was in, and which version of herself and friends were battling demons. Still, despite the temporary confusion, I felt the book was very unique, and I enjoyed reading about a heroine who didn't fit the typical "slayer mold". Heroes and heroines come in all shapes, sizes, and packages, and Natalie rose to the occasion when her friends needed her.

Fun weekend read!

Another great read is 15 Minutes: A YA Time Travel Thriller(Rewind Series)

Book Description
June 9, 2013
The future can be a dangerous place when you changed the past....

15 minutes is all the Rewind Agency gives a person when they travel to the past, but for Lara Crane it’s enough for her to race through the city, find her mother, and stop her from being killed in a mugging that happened over ten years ago.

But the story she’s been told all her life is a lie. When Lara takes a bullet meant for her mother, her future changes forever. A new house, new friends and a new boyfriend turns Lara’s life upside down. She thinks if she can save her father from prison, reunite him with her mother, everything will be fine.

15 Minutes is an edgy high octane YA thriller where the people Lara trusts change in an instant. She is in a timeline she doesn't understand, and is about to make one fatal mistake as she faces an enemy so familiar, he’s family.

Such a remarkable story! Jill Cooper has taken the age old question, "If you could change the past..." and placed it into an amazing ride into the 15 minutes that changed Lara Crane's life!

Part mystery, part action, definitely a thrill ride! I thought I'd had it all figured out when WHAM I was in for a big surprise! A page turner, heart tugger, and all around fantastic novel!

Lara wants a chance at knowing her mother. The mother snatched away by a mugging ten years ago. After careful calculation, she buys her time in the chair at the Rewind Agency and heads back into her past to hopefully change it for the better. Only something goes horribly wrong and she's thrust into a new life she never wanted... And one filled with dark secrets. While unraveling the truth, she's on a roller coaster of events, none of which should even be possible... But because she risked her life for fifteen minutes, her world may never be the same.

And, of course, we have a super scary tale Condiment Wars.

Condiment Wars

A parody of The Journey Adventure Movie

It's just another day at the Silver Train Diner until Relish goes missing. Ketchup, along with his trust sidekick mustard, must cross the treacherous caverns of dining booths to reach the fiery infernos of Kitchen to save their old friend. Along the way they will meet old friends, and make new enemies.
5.0 out of 5 stars That was SO PUNNY! April 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a short story and it's so funny and punny! I'm really glad I read it! Here are a few of my favorite lines. I swear I could quote this story all day!

"That's the third time this week that we lost Salt," Ketchup said grimly.

"Not even potato chips could stop this from happening now."

If you like a good punny humor, you're going to love this story!!

I suppose this last story explains the mischievous look on Jill's face. Hmmn.
