Christine Morgan is my Woman In Horror today! Christine is a busy woman, as is evidenced by her Amazon bio:

Christine Morgan divides her writing time among many genres, from horror to historical, from superheroes to smut, anything in between and combinations thereof. She's a wife, a mom, a future crazy-cat-lady and a longtime gamer, who enjoys British television, cheesy action/disaster movies, cooking and crafts.
Her stories have appeared in several publications, including: The Book of All Flesh, The Book of Final Flesh, The Best of All Flesh, History is Dead, The World is Dead, Strange Stories of Sand and Sea, Fear of the Unknown, Hell Hath No Fury, Dreaded Pall, Path of the Bold, Cthulhu Sex Magazine and its best-of volume Horror Between the Sheets, Closet Desire IV, and Leather, Lace and Lust.
She's also a contributor to The Horror Fiction Review, a former member of the HWA, a regular at local conventions, and an ambitious self-publisher (six fantasy novels, four horror novels, six children's fantasy books, and two roleplaying supplements). Her work has appeared in Pyramid Magazine, GURPS Villains, been nominated for Origins Awards, and given Honorable Mention in two volumes of Year's Best Fantasy and Horror.
Her suspense thriller, The Widows Walk, was recently released from Lachesis Publishing, and her horror novel, The Horned Ones, is due out from Belfire in 2012.She's currently delving into steampunk, making progress on an urban paranormal series, and on a bloodthirsty Viking kick.

Just perusing her websites http://www.sabledrake.com/  and  http://christine-morgan.org/  will tell you she is not your typical woman walking down the street. Past, present, or future, there is no stopping this dynamo!

How does one go about describing Christine's great works when there are so many of them and diversity abounds? Simple. I take my fascination with things different from those of what a lot of people like, but which I love, and base it on that. How about the anthology Mytherium: Tales of Mythical and Magical Creatures? Take a peak below at the super cover where I have her books highlighted.

Book description:

A varied collection of short stories, ranging from love stories right through to horror, with a delicious smattering of humour to balance it out. Meet our werewolves, vampires, gorgons, unicorns, trolls and many more inside our Mytherium.

MageLore 11: Dark of the Elvenwood is an intriguing blend of horror and fantasy.

Elven mage Arien Mirida was living what should have been the perfect life. Lord High Librarian of Thanis, sharing a home with the lovely Alinora, friend and student of the Archmage Talus Yor, the curse that had plagued his family finally broken ... yes, all should have been well.
Yet a shadow lingers over Arien's heart, a shadow in the shape of a young thief and the memory of a love impossible to forget. When adventure calls and brings with it the promise of a reunion with Cat Sabledrake, Arien is quick to accept the dangerous quest.
In the mysterious southern reaches of the Emerin, the sinister elves known as the Morvalan are hard at work on a project that will destroy Thanis. The force behind the plot is Solarrin, a necromancer inhabiting the powerful body of a minotaur.
As he finds himself facing orcs, Morvalan wizards, and even the dread warrior-priest of a god most elves dare not name, Arien must confront something even more terrible -- the realization that Cat may be lost to him forever.

Looks great, doesn't it?

The Widow's Walk will certainly intrigue you.

For a young married couple, Erin and Gil, the small coastal town of Blackwater Cove is many things. The seaside; their first home; the beginning of a wonderful new life together; Gil’s chance to work alongside his brother Colby on a fishing boat, a job he loves. But Blackwater Cove isn't the idylic paradise Erin and Gil imagine. Their cozy home is haunted by a tragedy of love betrayed and lost. It is the story of a husband betrayed and a life stolen by the cruel power of the sea. It is a tragedy that spills over into the lives of Erin and Gil. All because Erin has disturbed the power that lies dormant in… The Widow’s Walk

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Christine Morgan works the overnight shift in a residential psychiatric facility, a lonely job rough on the health and sleep schedule ... but it provides considerable writing time, as well as the occasional moment of inspiration. Christine is a lifelong reader of horror, a roleplaying gamer, a cat person, and a general geek with interests including superheroes, pirates, zombies, Vikings, history, oddball crafts, and cheesy disaster movies. She's married to an amazingly understanding guy, and they've produced a kid so precocious, creative and weird that she sold her own first zombie story at the age of fourteen. Christine enjoys hearing from readers and like-minded folk.

The Widow's Walk won't turn out the way you expect, but, then, what you expect will change at least three or four times before the end of the book. The writing is tight and the characters are vivid; there is a somewhat large cast of residents in the book's small-town setting, but there are never any moments of "who was that guy again?" You remember.

The book's pacing gets steadily faster. I try to read at least a chapter whenever I sit down to read, so I definitely noticed -- at the beginning, I stopped every chapter and picked up again a little later. By the middle, I had to read two chapters at a time to walk away comfortably, and by the final chapters I was breezing through as fast as I could.

The atmosphere is excellent. Christine does 'spooky' very well and doesn't rely on any cheap thrills or dangling a monster in front of the reader to make things scary. Erin is perfectly capable of scaring herself out of her wits without much help, and she will happily take you with her for the ride.

I will say the book is not a typical horror or ghost story; it's built up more around superstition and the power of small-town lore, and Christine uses both to good effect. I could be wrong, though; there's a thing or two by the end that just can't quite be explained...

I think you will agree with me about the eclectic skills with the craft this young lady possesses. Christine Morgan is a Woman In Horror!
