Melanie Karsak is my Woman In Horror today! Melanie is one of the super authors in the Summer Of Zombie Blog Tour 2014. Her new novel The Harvesting is a super read. Now, if you would like a peek into her Zombie tale, go to http://whatzombiesfear.com/2014/06/05/guest-post-melanie-karsaks-the-harvesting/  and read the first three chapters of this great novel for free! I went and read the chapters and love this story. I need to read more. I love the entire premise and flow of the story. Also, it just so happens I love stories written in first person. I feel this removes the fly on the wall feel that a lot of novels have. This makes it personal and allows you to root for the antagonist. Okay, perhaps I'm prejudiced because I write in first person for the most part, but I enjoy it. I am the hero. I haven't asked Melanie, but I'm certain she feels the same way.

Here are some editorial reviews for The Harvesting:

"Great writers can scare the pants off of me, but it takes a true maestro to sneak up on me the way that this book did" Contagious Reads

"Fans of apocalyptic reads and zombie lovers everywhere will find a new book to devour in The Harvesting, and will also find an author that will quickly rise high on the list of unforgettable horror writers" Chapter by Chapter

"The world-building was epic and brilliant and so absolutely original I am still squealing in delight over it. This is the kind of tale that has twists that will blow your mind! It is tightly woven and very apparent from the onset that the author knows exactly how this tale unfolds" The Caffeinated Book Reviewer

"This novel was an action packed thrill-ride . . . The writing is very well done and the story flows naturally" A Dream within a Dream

"The Harvesting is a page turning, suspenseful story with paranormal and horror elements that literally kept me on the edge of my seat from the moment Layla arrives in Hamletville. The dark and mysterious tone lend a feel of unpredictability to the supernatural world Ms. Karsak brilliantly writes" Romancing the Dark Side

From the Author

Due to language, creature violence, and adult situations, this novel is best suited for a PG-13 audience.

Melanie is also a fantastic Steampunk author. A lot of people think of weird goggles and flying machines when the genre is mentioned, and it certainly is a part of it, but there is so much more. Do you like adventure mixed in with some Victorian and around the world settings, sprinkled with horror? Welcome aboard. Want some romance added? Ahah! So be it. Melanie has it here and more. I love Steampunk and have to say that Melanie's books, Chasing The Star Garden(The Airship Racing Chronicles) and Chasing The Green Fairy: The Airship Racing Chronicles are super examples of what Steampunk should be. She manages to create a whole new world as she drifts through periods of time to come up with truths . . . truths the heroine needs to know.

Top 10 Finisher: Best Steampunk Novel of 2013, Preditors and Editors Reader's Poll

"Mere words don't seem adequate to explain how truly brilliant this story is,"- My Book Addiction

"While Chasing the Star Garden will certainly engage the Steampunk connoisseurs with its gadgetry and elegance, it's the intense attention paid to each characters' personal importance to the overall story that makes it a great adventure,"- Colossal Pop

"The author paints a vivid portrait of Venice, with its palazzi, jewel-coloured waters, masks, and gondolas. Venice truly comes to life as well as the other destinations visited in the course of following the mystery around the kaleidoscope. It is, indeed, a feast for the senses," - Torre de Babel

"One of my favorite things about this book is the world building. It is amazing. I could easily envision the airships, the airship towers, sky pirates, and the elaborate dress and contraptions of this steampunk fantasy. I absolutely loved it!" - Gin's Book Notes

"Chasing the Star Garden was a captivating tale from the complex characters to the breathtaking world-building. Karsak's writing has a flow and ease to it that allows the reader to slip into the worlds she creates." - Kimba the Caffeinated Coffee Reviewer

"The cover art is just a sampling of the overall beauty of the novel . . . Lily Stargazer is sort of an anti-hero with her absinthe and opium addictions, not to mention having multiple lovers. But, at the same time, she is so beautiful, rebellious, and tough that I found it impossible not to love her" - Twisted Book Junkie

"If you like your lofty steampunk sexy and adventurous, you may want to give this story a try," - SFF World

Chasing the Star Garden (The Airship Racing Chronicles) by Melanie Karsak (Jan 8, 2014)

Book Description

January 8, 2014
An opium-addicted beauty.
An infamous poet living in self-imposed exile.
An ancient treasure about to fall into the wrong hands.

Melanie Karsak's Chasing the Star Garden takes readers on a thrilling adventure from the gritty opium dens of gaslamp London to the gem-colored waters of the ancient world. Lily Stargazer, a loveable but reckless airship racer with a famous lover and shattered past, reluctantly plunges into a centuries-old mystery in a steampunk romantic adventure best described as Dan Brown meets Mary Shelley.

It all begins on one of the worst days of Lily’s life. She just lost the London leg of the 1823 Airship Grand Prix. To top it off, a harlequin fleeing from constables shoved a kaleidoscope down her pants, told her to fly to Venice, then threw himself from her airship tower. What’s a girl to do? For Lily, the answer is easy: drink absinthe and smoke opium.

Lily’s lover, Lord Byron, encourages her to make the trip to Venice. Lily soon finds herself at the heart of an ancient mystery which has her running from her past and chasing true love and the stars along the way.

*This novel is intended for mature audiences.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing and complex world with an exciting story February 25, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I’ll tell you what… Chasing the Star Garden is a thrilling ride!! The best way for me to describe it is that it is a mix between the movies National Treasure and Indiana Jones, but in this particular story we travel by hot air-balloon ships.

The story is told from Lily’s POV and she is a character that I really enjoyed reading about!! She has lived through a lot of hard times but appears to be doing ok for herself. On this journey we discover how deep her hurt goes and come to realise how strong she is because of it. She has her little habits and a few fellas on the side, but once she is determined to do something, she is focused until the end.

I enjoyed the world building of this story; learning the cities and customs, how to look for the things you needed in the markets and taverns. The thrill of unravelling the particular quest that Lily finds herself wrapped up in was exhilarating as well. She is on an expedition to find an ancient artefact before it falls into the wrong hands. She takes her crew along for the ride, with the support of her two favourite men, and soon is thrust into danger while unravelling the mystery.

This is the second book of Melanie Karsak’s and again I was left speechless as to how good it was. She has built an amazing and complex world and wove a beautiful story into it. I was constantly flipping the pages as I was caught up in the excitement on the story, wanting to know more as soon as possible. The characters were great to read about and easy to connect to. If you are looking for an electrifying read, with an ancient/steampunk feel, with a few saucy scenes thrown in, this is the one for you!! You will not regret it!!

I received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed Immensely April 3, 2014

Format:Kindle Edition
I had so many thoughts running in my head about this the second book in The Airship Racing Chronicles where would the story go, would I even enjoy it, was it going to be a disappointment after reading Chasing the Star Garden. I quickly discovered the answers to my questions and no Chasing the Green Fairy was not a disappointment! I enjoyed it immensely I was so in love with this story I didn't want it to end. I found a new love for Lily and so many of the rest of the characters. Chasing the Green Fairy had a different tale to be told than Chasing the Star Garden. This time around we learn more about Lily and some life altering secrets that could make or break Lily forever. I formed a new love hate relationship for Lord Byron and truly thought that I was beginning to understand him and could let myself truly love him only to learn that I shouldn't try to predict how a story should be told. Yes, I hate him again! Lily is in trouble and she needs a savior fast but, is there any help left and can they save her in time and still qualify for the race. Oh , my head was spinning and the anticipation was killing me I have to know how it ends I wanted to skip ahead and learn the end only I knew I would be missing out on something important if I did. I finally finished the book and set my ereader aside and instantly knew that this story is far from over and that I need to know more. Melanie Karsak as got me hook, line, and sinker. I can't wait for the next installment to this series I am positive that it is sure to be a winner for me.

Let's get the obvious out of the way...I don't read horror and I definitely don't read horror zombie books. Well, this book is labeled as both, and not only did I read it but I LOVED it!

It is so much more than horror and the undead; it is heartache, sacrifices, love, strength, and a kick ass heroine that I absolutely adored. I will let you read the synopsis for all the details but just know that there is an awesome blending of genres. You get post-apocalyptic, paranormal, fantasy, and romance built into an amazing world, that despite all the dead people you don't want to leave.

The characters, the world, the twists and turns...all fantastic! I am beyond excited to read the next book in this series and will be a loyal follower of Melanie's future books!

Has it totally changed my stance on horror and zombies? Let's just say that I now am a little more open minded to the genres and will cautiously try to expand my reading repertoire.
