Alianne Donnelly is my Woman In Horror today! Alianne  has a huge  fantasy background and adds in strong romantic elements to The Royal Wizard. This is a wonderful beginning to a trilogy, so be on the lookout. Here is a book description and review:

Book Description

March 3, 2013
The kingdom of Wilderheim stands bastion between the world of humans and the Otherlands. It is ruled as much by people as it is by creatures Other and as such, it must always have a wizard at the right hand of its king. Nico has seen three generations of rulers sit the throne; he knows he will not see the fourth. Desperate to find a worthy apprentice, when Nia appears like a godsend in his path he wastes no time taking her under his wing as his last sworn duty to the young king Saeran.

But Nia and Saeran have many trials ahead of them. With destinies converging toward an inevitable battle for power, countless lives hang in the balance, including theirs. As love brings them together, so strife tears them apart and as the balance between justice and magic shifts, the royal wizard and her king get caught in a maelstrom of colliding forces. Nothing is ever as it seems with a trickster hiding in the shadows. When the gods begin to play, mortals tremble…

Her The Beast Series is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast with a very dark twist. Below is a book description and a review. Fascinating stuff! I love her entire concept.

Book Description

November 16, 2013
This is a special Amazon Only Edition and contains both parts of The Beast series, now with a new, rewritten ending for The Beast.

Bastien

Boredom can be a dangerous thing. Lord Bastien Sauvage has been driven nearly out of his mind with it, retired to his castle in the country. By now, he is willing to agree to anything for some entertainment, no matter how ridiculous it may seem. With his trusted friend at his side, there is no mischief they can’t get into, or trouble they can’t get out of. The world is theirs for the taking.

But on a night made dark with powers beyond comprehension, all it takes is one choice, one turn of a card, to change Bastien’s fate forever. He should have heeded the hag’s warning. Now it’s too late. Seduced by the Faery princess, haunted by dreams of a woman he can never have, Bastien discovers that there are things in this world far worse than boredom. History is penned in a human hand. Legend carries on the wicked whisper of a Faery wind. This is the story of Beauty’s Beast—told his way.

Warning: This title has adult content and foul language. The squeamish should look away.

The Beast

There are hard lessons to take from the story of Beauty and the Beast, which tend to be forgotten. Knowing there is a happy ending to be had, we tend to overlook and forgive the Beast’s flaws. But what if they’re not so easy to dismiss? A gentle man trapped in the body of a beast is one thing. But what if the beast is the gentle one, and the man is the monster? What if to save one, the other must be sacrificed?

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

It's amazing how a simple fairy tale can have such a tremendous impact on someone. When I began this tale, it was nothing more than impromptu chapters of a strange little retelling of the classic Beauty and the Beast, posted on my blog at sort of regular intervals just for the fun of it. Back then I had no idea it would be anything more than that. I suppose I should have known better.

I had just I made the whole of it available as a freebie when Bastien showed up in my head and refused to leave until I told his side of the story. So I did. But I was no longer going to be satisfied with simply posting the chapters on some website. No, Bastien demanded the royal treatment with editing, formatting, fancy cover page, and all. Have you ever tried arguing with a spoiled rotten prince? I wouldn't recommend it.

Obviously, he got what he wanted. Damn his handsome hide...

This is a special collector's edition of this story's two separate novellas, originally published as eBooks in 2012. As the prequel, Bastien comes first so you can have a front row seat to his wicked fall from humanity. This isn't your typical fairy tale. It's dark and ugly, and Bastien himself is not exactly a poster boy for Prince Charming. Believe me when I say he very much deserved his punishment. And though I am fully aware that he is a royal bastard--a title he very much likes and takes every opportunity to demonstrate--there were times while writing his side of the story when his tough face slipped just a little and I could steal small glimpses into his heart. That side of him ended up claiming a piece of my heart in return.

In the second half of this book you will find the original novella which takes place several months after Bastien. In order to remain true to the spirit of The Beast, the story is included here in its minimally edited format. Most of it is exactly as it was first posted on my blog: somewhat rough around the edges, just like the Beast himself. But now it has a new ending, completely rewritten from the original. It is a great deal richer and gives a much more satisfying closure to this tale.

We each have that one fairy tale which resonates with us on some deeper level. This is mine. The story of Beauty and her Beast has always been very dear to me. It has at its core values which can easily become lost in the shuffle of everyday life: love, family, integrity, bravery, loyalty, and trust. I wrote this to remind myself of each and every one of them, plus one more: magic.

I think everyone should have a little of that in their life, don't you?

Happy reading!

I love, love, love, "The Beast Series." She made an old story so much more fascinating. Warning! Bastien is a bastard. I was already a big fan of Alianne Donnely & after reading this series - she now has her own category on my kindle.

Here is an interview on Alianne's Smashword profile page http://www.smashwords.com/interview/AlianneDonnelly

**********************************************************************

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I've been writing in some way from a very early age. Most of my earliest writing were poems, but the very first prose I wrote was a mystery/thriller novella about a man who got brutally murdered and became a vengeful ghost set on avenging his own death and protecting his beloved wife. Now that I think about it, that probably should have been my first clue that I would become a published author one day. The story was pretty dark and gruesome and very detailed in its plot and mythology. Most eleven-year-olds don't write that way, I don't think. LOL
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small country in Europe. It's not very know for its industries, but more for its natural beauty. While they've adopted Christianity as the main religion, many of the old pagan customs and beliefs are still prominent, though now they tend to be labeled as superstitions. I've grown up believing in elves, fairies, demons and vampires as part of life. It's been a tremendous influence on me personally and on my writing. I write what I would want to read, describe worlds I'd want to live in and creatures I would want to meet, and in that sense, there is a little (or a lot) of the supernatural and magical in all of my books and stories.
What is your writing process?
I will get random ideas and inspiration throughout the day or week, and try to write them down whenever I can. Inevitably, all of them end up in one story or another, even when they are completely unrelated to whatever I happen to be working on at the time. At least a day or two a week I try to sit down and just write. I need to immerse myself in the plot completely and when that happens, the words flow. Once I'm in that place, I don't think about anything else, including food. I lose track of time and only come up for air when I start getting hunger headaches. It's probably not a very healthy process, but it works for me. =)
How do you approach cover design?
With great drive and relentless nit picking. I am a perfectionist, in that I will never say "Good enough" when I know I can do better. If I know a book will be part of a series, I try to create all the covers at the same time. That way I can be sure they will match. Usually I already know my characters and worlds so well if I had any intrinsic artistic talent I could draw them in my sleep. Alas, I do not, so I use stock images and GIMP. I look for faces first, and try to match them to my characters as best I can. From there, it's only a matter of putting elements together and making sure they blend well. I put as much dedication into the covers as I do the books themselves, because they deserve nothing less.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
The Kindle Keyboard, which has sadly been discontinued, so I am taking very good care of mine so that it can last a good long while. Of all the models, it's the most convenient and comfortable to read on. The screen stays nice and clean because I don't have to touch it, it has lots of memory and if I want to listen to an audio book, or music while I read, I can do that, too.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My first indie book was The Beast, which I had posted on my blog by chapters as it was being written. Once it was finished, I made a PDF version of it available on my website, but I thought, "I can do better than this!" A friend of mine directed me to Smashwords as a way to give the novella structure and make it widely available. I didn't really expect it to do much other than sit there, to be honest, so imagine my surprise that a year and a half later, it's found its way to over 20,000 readers! It is exciting and humbling at the same time, to know that my words are reaching so many people. I wanted to do more, to share more of my stories without the filter and crucible of publishing houses. It's been an amazing experience and I will forever be indebted to my friend for showing me how easily possible it all was.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest is The Royal Wizard, part of a trilogy I am working on. It's the story of a kingdom which is sort of a border between our world and the worlds of mythical creatures. The old wizard is no longer able to advise the king, and so he finds a replacement, who just so happens to be female. This creates a lot of tension in the royal court, especially with the king who struggles with having to honor his duty, and needing to honor his heart. Both he and his new wizard are bound to put the welfare of the kingdom before the king's, but for a king who rules with his heart, that can get very complicated--and it does.
What are you working on next?
At the moment, I have several balls in the air, so to speak. One of them is book 2 of the Dragonborn series ( of which The Royal Wizard is book 1). Without giving away spoilers, all I can say is that the events of The Royal Wizard may have solved a number of problems, but they have created a whole slew of others. Liadan, the heroine of Dragonborn, will have to embark on a dangerous quest to save a people from destruction, but she is untried. Her powers are great, but volatile and no one knows whether there is anything she can do, or whether she is riding to her death. This book will also introduce her twin brother, Fal, who will have his own story told in book 3, titled Prince of Deceit.

Biography
Alianne is an avid lover of stories of all kinds. Having grown up with fairy tales in a place where it almost seemed they were real, it was no surprise when she began making up her own stories. She loves books, music, hiking, and archery, and won’t shy away from travel and zip lining. Alianne graduated with a business degree and when she’s not off in the land of fantasy, she lives in California.

Her first book, Blood Moons was published in 2010 through the wonderful Liquid Silver Books and has gotten some great reviews so far. It was even nominated by The Romance Reviews for Best Romantic Science Fiction/Fantasy in 2010. Since then she’s added two more stories to The Blood Series and self-published The Beast, a duo of fantasy novellas retelling the story of Beauty and The Beast.

She is currently working on at least four other projects, which seems to be the minimum at which her brain operates at any given time. They include the final installment in the Blood Series, book 2 of Dragonborn (incidentally titled Dragonborn...), and a post-apocalyptic odyssey which popped up out of nowhere and is turning into the longest book ever written (not really, but close enough!).

Alianne also has a passion for GIMP and when she doesn't have a Word document open, it's usually because she's remaking her website graphics. Again.

Her first book, Blood Moons was published in 2010 through the wonderful Liquid Silver Books, marking her entrance into the world of published authorship with a small but powerful…well, chirp. Since then she’s kept her passion for storytelling alive by adding several more books to her collection, including a dark twist on the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast, a fantasy romance series inspired by a childhood dream, and her most recent and daring story yet, a foray into the realms of horror and post-apocalyptic adventure.
Though Alianne is somewhat of a hermit, she adores her readers and loves hearing from them. To get in touch,

In a post on her blog http://aliannedonnelly.com/2014/05/27/david-vs-goliath-from-where-the-author-sits/  , Alianne makes a rather astute observation of what is going on in the publishing business and why it is never wise to put all your eggs in one basket. Amazon might be the big boy in the biz right now, and we should certainly not withhold our books from them, but they are not the only game in town. Read this informative piece.
