Shawn Pfister is my Woman In Horror today! Shawn and I have known each other for some time now. She writes some terrific horror and just happens to be one of the nicest women on the planet. She has a great short story in the I Believe In Werewolves  anthology titled Lily's Angel, and a great seventeen story collection of YA stories about all of our favorite little horror beasties geared for Young Adults to 120 years of age  in My Vampire Prom Date and other stories. A great range. Schrödinger's Cat Is Dead To Me is my favorite, but I love Physics, and horror, and humor. She nabbed me!

Visionary Press Collaborative will be publishing Spirits Of The Night this year, and Shawn has a great story in this anthology. Many of your favorite horror authors will be included in this great tome, so keep your eyes peeled.

Shawn not only is a great author, but she is a painter, photographer, poet, short story writer and editor. She manages to keep busy!

I have given Shawn a special honor. She has a fantastic story in the soon to come anthology Sideshow. That is a huge honor in itself because there are some great authors included in this tome, including a number of my Women In Horror. I have not shown the world the cover art for this great anthology. It is here below in all its splendor with a short description of this great book and the authors with super tales in it. The great artwork is by the specially talented Melissa Stevens, one of my Women In Horror. Shawn deserves to be carrying the banner for this great book. This great, soon to be classic, will have magnificent interior full color, full page art done also by Melissa.

Shawn's bio:

Raised in Michigan, USA; Shawn now lives in Ontario, Canada with her family. Shawn is a painter and photographer, but writing is her true passion. Shawn is a featured writer in several recent anthologies including the werewolf anthology “I Believe in Werewolves” (Netbound Publishing,) the vampire anthology, “Vicious Bites” and the ghost anthology “Vicious Spirits” (both Key Publishing,) where her contribution, “Ghost Stories” was an award winner. Shawn Pfister’s remarkable voice follows in the vein of other writers of young people’s fiction like R.L. Stein and J.K. Rowling. Like Stein and Rowling, Shawn’s stories speak, not only to the kid in your house, but to the kid in you!

Don't let her sweet innocence get in the way of the fact that Shawn Pfister is a Woman In Horror!

From the minds at Visionary Press Collaborative, coming as a 2014 release in both print, and e-reader formats:

Sideshow

How Dark Is Your Shadow?
Travel with a thrill seeker looking to watch the forbidden.  Journey with a girl and boy, who, through a fated carnivale visit, have their future sealed through the power of a pinky promise.  Join a man on his quest to meet a living doll … and in the distant future, just when you think you’re safe, find that the sideshow is still working its circuit, for after all, the show must go on!

What a treat to have such a great–and scary–lineup of authors.  Fabulists, every one.

Phil Hickes, a magic man, a modern day story bard.
S. MacLeod, a storyteller who cuts straight to the vein.
Leigh M. Lane, veteran multi-genre author and blogger.
Tina Swain, genius newcomer, and already published next to the likes of Billie Sue Mosiman, Joe R. Lansdale, and Tom Piccirilli.
Shawn Pfister, painter, photographer, poet, short story writer and editor. WOW!
C.B. Doyle, musician and breakout writer.
Melissa Stevens, artist, musician, and author; she’s also Sideshow’s not-so-secret weapon, our cover artist and illustrator.
Carole Gill, gothic romance goddess, and expert on real good and real evil.
Lisamarie Lamb, a story master that knows how to break a reader’s hearts, even as she’s ripping hearts apart.
Rob M. Miller, the fortunate bastard with the joy of bringing these stories together.
E.A. Irwin, One of the freshest story voices to hit the market.
Jody Neil Ruth, a humble wordsmith who’s going to explode on the scene.

Shawn's writing is heartfelt and works equally well in deadpan humor and serious themes. A lot of the stories will resonate with those around high school age. I liked the ghost stories the most, especially the ones with a twist. My favorite one was The Death of Eleanor. Like many of the stories, this one had heart and that's an element missing in a lot of fiction.

I do not often read werewolves stories often but I got asked to review this and well since it is Halloween time and did not have any plans for the weekend I decided to read this.
Wow! What a great bunch of stories. Some were longer and others and some I did enjoy more than others but it kept me reading up to the end of the entire ebook. None of these stories scared me but I am not easy to scare.
