VALERIE BOWEN - WOMAN IN HORROR!

Book Description

November 24, 2012
When the mutilated body of a young man is discovered on the side of the road near an abandoned house Sheriff Eric Miller is sent into an emotional tailspin. Lack of evidence and the nature of the crime, force the sheriff to call in a special K-9 unit.

Fingers are immediately pointed to the only logical person who could have committed the crimes...the drifter.

Peter Thomas, the drifter, is far from the friendliest person roaming the small town of Easton Kansas. Wrongfully accused of murder, Peter lost eight years of freedom after being sent to prison for crime he didn't commit. Pent up anger feeds his determination to find his accuser and make the liar pay...one way or another.

More heinous murders send law enforcement into an emotional tailspin, as they gather evidence and frantically search for the butcher responsible before more lives are lost.

"Always watch your back...you never know who your enemies are until it's too late."  Valerie Bowen

Valerie Bowen is my Woman In Horror today! As you can see, I started off this post with a picture of her book The Drifter and a book description. Yes, I realize that this is a bit unusual to get rolling like this, but Valerie doesn't have a picture of herself anywhere.  So, I did the next best thing and put up the book she wished to advertise the most. All of Valerie's books have a deep, underlying message to them. The Drifter certainly is one of them. Justice must be done; a killer must be apprehended before any more deaths are committed. This is an in-your-face mystery and a real-life horror tale. Read this super tale, and hang on for a wild ride.

Valerie writes many books which deal with abuse. As in The Drifter, her monsters are real. People who harm others and want to continue on an ever-escalating path of degradation and physical pain and torment are front and center in her tales. But, the strong women protagonists fight back, not wanting to accept a fate that their cruel male antagonists believe should be their manifest destiny.  Valerie's novel Her Silent Tears is based on a true story, another psychological terror story of extreme abuse. Valerie writes so well that I often wonder if many of her tales are taken from personal experiences. I certainly hope this is not the case. However, her skill at delving into the heinous topics makes one wonder. That, my friends, is the essence of a great author.

Here is a quote from Valerie's work in progress, The Enchanted Oasis. This is anything but enchanted. The paragraph describes a murder:

Blood pooled around the prongs of the tool. The assailant yanked on the makeshift weapon raking large fragments of tissue and blood in its path. The dark crimson liquid streamed from the four wounds and ran down the big man’s side forming a puddle on the ground. The weapon was lifted over the assailants head and readied for another downswing. Streaks of blood arced over the murderer’s head as he lifted the tool time and time again. Blood splashed on the face of the attacker and the nearby trees. With each torturous swing of the weapon four more stabs wounds were created. Blood drenched the area as it ran from every wound and onto the ground.

Valerie Bowen was one of my Women In Horror last year as well. I surprised my ladies last year and sometimes they found out about my posts from friends or, as is the case with Valerie, through other means. It makes me very happy when I read posts like this - I took this from off her blog. To be appreciated makes me very happy. Thank you, Valerie Bowen!

Great find on line at Blaze McRob's Tales of Horror

I recently googled my name...I know I was bored and wanted to see what I could find (no dirt so I guess that's a good thing. I came across this website and was pleased at what I read...Valerie Bowen writes from the soul, taking real life and expanding it to create a masterpiece that touches, horrifies, and teaches a lesson. When a person lives horror, the pen to paper experience is genuine. The reader is not cheated and is carried along on a ride of majestic proportions. The series starting with For The Sake Of Amelia-  Tormented begins speaking out against violence against women, but Valerie wants to spread hope, strength, and love.

I'm a sucker for stories that take place in Maine; I love the state. Valerie was born there and lives in Connecticut now, so the locale comes easy to her. Toss in Kansas and you have a cross-country experience you won't want to miss.

Valerie has seven five star reviews for this great novel on Amazon. That says it all. Read her sample chapter and you'll buy the book.
